re: Mersey Memories
Hi Charlie, just had a pint or two with Denny McCrieth in Waterloo, yes that was his brother Peter that you met in NZ.He lived in a place called Lower Hut (or is it Hutt)I'm sure the lads in NZ will know where it is.Peter never went to sea and jumped ship he actually did National Service in the army and emigrated to NZ,I believe he was quite well in in the union he did end up on the NZ ships.Brothers of Peter eldest Terry (Our Kids Dad)Brian, many lads is CPR will remember him he had a mini bus and would ferry all hands backwards and forwards from the ship to the Caradoc,Denny and Tony.Charlie Peter crossed the bar about 5 years ago.
Stevie Porter. You are talking about old Stevie (80 ish)played in goal for the Salisbury, brother Johnny played out.Mickey,Johnny,Stevie,Paddy.Tommy(in my class)and Alec the youngest.Young Stevie died in Spain, horse accident,he was the sister of Sheilla, their father was Mickey. They lived on Peel Road over the Library, young Stevie was always knocking on my ma's door asking if she needed any messages.Tommy wrote a book which Sheilla leant me,him and Alec his young brother were put into orphanages with the Christian Brothers passed around from different places, they had one hard life.
Regards.

Thanks for that info Jim he was on the coast in NZ and your right he did live in Lower Hutt.He shipped out of wellington it was in the Waterlloo were i met him and his mate Hughie i had a drink with them there it was a laugh really i had told them of my jumping and they were going on about it i mentioned getting on the coast and that caused more yakking i said eh fellows how about getting on the blower to( Les Barber,he was the union rep in Wellington) and do the yakking in his ear instead of going on about it between the two of you, that caused more of the chat i ended up calling Les Myself when i got him on i draged Peter out and handed him the phone and he got on, to cut a long story short i joined the Corraki the next day.But all in all it was a bloody good laugh.Sad to hear of his passing.R.I. re: Mersey Memories
Charlie,do you ever read the Bootle Forum a young man Ian (Stevies lad ) is right into the history of the Salisbury football team,I think that they still have a team and he is involved in it.My Brother-In-Law played for them,Ian turned up at his house some months ago as my BIL has lots of newspaper cuttings about the team. But what was very nice of Ian,he brought along a replica shirt of the old team with my BIL's number on the back that he played under.I never read books but once I started reading that one by Tommy i could'nt put it down,I remember Alec being involved in that bad accident and losing his fingers.Tommy was over here from Barmouth about 4 weeks ago but i did'nt see him.

Yea, I know him well Jim. You don't see much of him I get in there about once a fortnight, Do you remember Peter and Pat Nelson when they had it. Peter died under tragic circumstances, He never forgive himself for his young sons death as a school kid, We had a great dart team in there then. Whacker was always good for a sub. Here is a pic of the Caradoc when it was Threlfalls As most of the lads on here would remember it Regards Jim Terry.
