Poor John you are sadly mistaken , modern genetic , dna research I am afraid proves you wrong , there is surprisingly little common dna between the English and the rest of us British and what there is , is of very recent origin. True history ( not written by some Tory MP ) includes the race policies of the Anglo Saxons, the exportation of British slaves to Germany by the Anglo Saxons, the sacking of celtic religious institutions by Bede and then trying to pass them off as Saxon, There was no single indigenous people in Scotland at this time, but rather Picts Scots and North Cymric or Welsh who's territory extended to Cumbria. Incidentally very very few Roman soldiers came from the area we now call Italy, most were mercenaries including many from asia.

Last time up there was last May to a friends wedding on a Yacht in Portnavadie, across on the ferry from Dunoon, it was a beautiful weekend , four nights, Hot and sunny. Lovely place.

If scotland go for independance, and presume they will not be part of the EU, What does that do for the security of our borders, would we have to set up another border control of our own (hadrians wall), or would we trust the Scots to keep out undesirables??, not that we are very efficient at keeping them out now. But if you went to Scotland, or they came here surely they would be entering , or from our end re-entering the EU, and have to be checked. Have not heard anything in that direction, KT

Further to my last post, this is the same as happens from the channel isle, when i used to sail over there, always called in at Cherbourg before setting sail back here, as i had re-entered Europe in Cherbourg, and did not need to inform customs when i arrived back, KT

Hadrians Wall starts on the Solway Firth and ends at Wallsend in Newcastle-on-Tyne. If Scotland should gain independence (I hope not) they might think it a good idea to repair or rebuild it. Should this be the case, Scotland would regain Berwick, most of and almost all of Northumberland and almost fifty per cent of Newcastle-on-Tyne. In other words eighty square miles which at present is under the jurisdiction of the sovereign. Anyway, Salmond hasn't the savvy to think like this, so it looks like the modern Hammer of the Scots will end up buying a croft somewhere in a remote part of the highlands, so that he and his granny can live together thinking of "what could have been".

Agree with that , we would love to come out of Europe, the reason i posed the Question on the borders was that i hope it does not cost us money for the Scots to pull out, should we have to organise borders would cost a lot of money. Cannot be a lot of true Scots up there anyway, most of them seem to be down here already, only joking , KT
