Virtually all the N.W. has closed down. Birkenhead (Cammell Laird, Lever Bros, Most docks) - Liverpool, most docks, what kind of a Government permits this?. Most of the work force on the scrap heap and thousands of immigrants allowed into the country in their place. Last time I was in London it was unrecognisable. The Royal Docks were office blocks and an airport! The East End was more like Calcutta or Bombay. Everything gone, never to return.

Maybe the pollies have bought a job lot. Could use them as southwesters and live up to their title of *ickheads. Talking about Southwesters this used to be an item of gear together with seaboots and oilskins required to be carried of your own when I first went to sea. I still have mine and a set of oil skins, including my knife and a spike that Dad made me in 1953, also my palm and needles, Not much call for them in retirement in Bolton.

Could have done with the needles a few months back as had a canvas chair to repair. Have 2 palms, went all over looking for needles no joy. Finished up threw chair away and bought a new one, this seems to be the answer for everything these days. I could think of one or two uses your gear would be useful for Kong, but if i mention them on here some of your colourful neighbours may issue me with a fatwah and send me into the wilderness with no supper and no virgins.
