    Default Wonga.com.

They are falling over themselves to lend you next months wages, 60% interest. They will buy your old gold at a knockdown if you're short of funds, They have started buying everything from your dinner table to your family china tea set. Why aren't they offering to pay are gas and electric bills until the end of the quarter ????????? Could it be that they may loose on the deal. Capitalist Barstewards Terry.

I believe that Wonga were charging over 1000% plus interest on loans, they were exposed in the papers about it.
    They still advertise on TV.
I dont understand why people borrow money off these shylocks.
If you are short of money, do not borrow, just do without,
If you cannot manage on what you have got now you will never manage to pay back a loan with loads of high interest, that muliplies and interest on top of interest. you go deeper and deeper in debt, then you lose your home and for the rest of your life will remain in debt.
The interst is multiplying, then the Big Heavies with Big Dogs come knocking on the door, taking away your TV , the Kids I pads, Mobile phones and your computer, they will wipe you out.then a miserable life.
Money Lenders should all be gaoled for life, No one should borrow, just go short for a bit, or you will be More Than Short for the rest of your life.
    Cheers

Agree with most of that Kong, however rather than have all their top of the range electronics snatched by the 'Heavies',perhaps buying all these 'must have' items in the first place has led to some of the reasons why these people fall into debt initially. Jam today is their philosophy- although that is now freely available at the local food bank.

Can't understand how they get in debt. I have a debit card and a credit card, which I could pay £5.00 each a month to keep them going but I pay the full amount which is owed on them. result I do not owe the bank any money. if I needed money I would borrow from the bank.

Same as Alf,, the credit card, pays the air ticket, and full amount get paid
when the bill comes in, debit, money comes out same day, or as soon as
the card is cleared, we need it we buy it, don't need it, leave in the shop,
easy, why as no body done any thing about this, GOV talk the talk, but don't
    walk the walk.

Most people do manage their finances fairly well Alf, but a lot of the population do get into debt, sometimes through no fault of their own- marriage break ups, loss of employment ( or no employment at all) etc. Slipping into the benefits system can be easy and as Kong mentioned, why not try to do without what most people would consider unnecessary luxuries until they become affordable. Lack of equity is the reason these people cannot borrow from banks etc, and are forced to look elsewhere. I also beleve that a lot of reportage is mainly media hype and perhaps the problem is not as widespread as we think.

I have never paid one penny in interest on anything except a mortgage for my house.
my credit card is paid on a direct debit at the bank so I dont even think about it so I never have to worry about forgetting it and paying interest. I know what I can afford and what I cannot afford. I do not have a mobile or one of those wotsitS, I Pads or any of those thingys.. I have lived 78 without a mobile and do not want one not want one now. I have no one to phone now anyway they are neartly all dead.
We had to do without in the 30s and 40s and 50s so doing without now is no hardship.
My step son, got a loan against my advice six years ago, he now owes more than he borrowed even tho` he has been paying back for six years. he will never get out of debt.
If you have food in your belly and a place to sleep, Do not borrow, If you are in debt you cannot afford to borrow money, you aint never going to pay it back for ever.
    Cheers

There are not many people in full time employment and on what was at one time a half decent salary who have any money left the last week in the month.People on 4 year pay freezes whilst the cost of living carries on rising,it's no wonder people are turning to the money-lender,the pawn shop and the food banks. These are decent hard working people who have most probably always voted Tory.

come on fellas. We all were brought up with the belief that when you could afford it you can have it.People today are brought up on the basis that if somebody else has it then we are entitled to it(now) whether we can afford it or not.
Some body has a wedding on a west indian island costing 20000 pounds then every wants one even if they are in low paid jobs.Put it on the plastic.
People who always went to Benidorm on holiday are no longer happy when they hear about aquaintances going to florida.
Its not their fault its the fault of their parents who brought them up that way because a socialist government taught them that everybody has equal rights to the good things in life whether they have worked for them or not

I was talking to a Social Worker at a party I was at.
He said Poverty is when the people next door have a bigger slim TV, one in each room, than you have and you only have one , smaller.
Poverty in Children is when they do not the same as their mates, a mobile phone , Blackbury, these things cost 500 quid or so. And an I pad or pod. and so on. That is real poverty he insisted. What a load of crap.
They do not know what poverty is.
We had Real Poverty in the 30s and 40s. no Child Benefit No benefits at all, not a Penny.
I have been , as a child, on the tips scratching for bits of coal and wood to burn, if I wanted a bike we went on the tips and find an old frame , maybe a week later find a wheel and so on and in six months could build a bike, No one bought me one. Today they have bikes costing hundreds.
If Dad had no money in the 30s I remember the Man from the Parish, coming in. Sell that chair, only one chair each for adults, we kids had to stand at the table. Sell that wireless, one with a big glass battery inside that you charged at the corner shop every Saturday for a couple of pennies. and so on through the house when you have sold them and spent up you may get a couple fo shillings off the Parish. We had three of us, sister and big brother and me in one bed, a WW1 Army overcoat on the bed to keep warm. one gas mantle in the front kitchen nothing in the back kitchen, cook on the fire, no lights up stairs, just a candle. midden at the bottom of the yard to crap in.
    No bathroom or hot water,
We were still a happy family. My Dad being in the Bolton Borough Brass band played his E-Flat Bass to us every night, we didnt need a TV or Radio.
I swore that I would never go back to those days and tried my very best to keep out of debt, if I wanted something I saved up for it, No HP no interest. When I got marrued I saved up to buy a table and chairs for the dining room, we did without for four years, I saved up for every item of furniture, If I cannot afford it, do without, I did in the old days and still do now.
So to me , Today there is NO POVERTY. it is self inflicted, Politics have nothing to do with it, it is just common sense.
    Cheers
    Brian.
