Currently celebrating the 40th of the opera house. Designed in 1956 construction began in 1958, but it was not until 1973 that it was completed and opened.

hi Brian. I was told that the bridge was built by Dorman Long at their site between Middlesbrough and Redcar and assembled then broken down before being shipped. I wonder if they numbered each piece for reassembly. a great film with lots of ferries running about. the three funnel white liner could have been one of the P&O Strath class. now that's something for someone to do; identify the liners.

Brian, that's a great film and I am unable to see it properly or hear it as my computer is really in trouble. I have got it started but maybe it will not oblige after I have shut down. It is something that is going to need repairing - My best mate and I built it five years ago so some of it must be wearing out.

I have my old "steam driven" one I haven't used in nearly a year but the server has severed the link and I am about to phone and ask what the bl****y H*ll is going on. I want to get back on the air!!

Anyway, I want to see this one in all it's glory and in sound. I relate to the old "Coat hanger" being born within a knot of her in February 1931, a year before completion. I've walked, cycled, drove, by train, by tram, by bus and under it in most ways (not swum). An old mate of mine was on the ship that regularly brought in the stone from the South Coast of NSW.

Hope you get it fixed soon Richard, I just had to bite the bullet and buy a new one, Windows 7, very confusing after Windows XP.
very interesting film and some good views of Sydney in the old days. a few old liners and it was amazing how the arch was exact in position when it was joined. No Computers in the design.

Thats from an era when Britain was truly great, what an engineering fete. Notice all the hard hats, safety boots, etc !!!. I do wonder how many were killed in its construction, KT

hi richard. haven't heard it called the coat hanger for a long time. i used to go out with a girl from a street of two ups two downs which pointed directly at the bridge it looked as if it went underneath. not sure if it did. i remember seeing a documentry of the street being pulled down for redevelopment in the sixties or seventies.
