John, I think we already have, mums and dads are still driving their kids to school at 14/15 years old for safety reasons when the school is within walking distance, to think I was wending my way to Iceland on a deep water trawler when I was 13, thank god I was young in the era I was, when life was an adventure and not a monotony

My daughter drives her eight year old the mile to School Daily , I walked four miles too and four miles back from school from the age of five , there were no buses , in winter the snow drifts were two feet deep , so I was told walk in the road and watch out for the traffic , OH !! yes in short trousers too , and the grey wooly socks when wet stayed wet all day . I have said here before , the Health and safety rules are fine until you get Billy Nonuts interpretation . The classic cons were PAT ( portable appliance testing ) . could train a depot manager well enough to test his own appliances to satisfy the rules within two hours , then the Health and Safety imbossile from Head Office found out and without any knowledge of either PAT testing or electricity involved a company that charged him £10,000 a year to do the same thing we did internally for free

the helicopter crash in Glasgow health and safety is stopping the lift of the chopper get some of the riggers in from the docks they are some of the best in the business and would have it out without even dust coming of it? the fire service is good but a little long winded about it.jp

unfortunately John the fire service is bound down with the same h&s as everyone else. I have personnel knowledge of this, the next morning after attending an incident, a senior officer would sit down at a desk with all the details of the incident, messages , times etc, and then would be called to the office to explain every one of my actions. My usual reply was * i didnt get time to sit down and study the job before leaving the station*. this whole blame culture came from USA, look for someone to sue. The glasgow situation would have been a nightmare to deal with in its initial stages. KT
