    more connections with former Merchant Navy crew over the years.

     
    Two notable women murderers had links to the MN.

    EDITH THOMPSON , A 30 year-old middle-class married socialite took a lover in Frederick Bywaters,a 21-year-old assistant steward in the P & O.
    The pair were both hanged in 1923 for the killing of Edith’s husband .

    RUTH ELLIS. The well-known case of the last woman to be hanged in Britain,whereby she was accused of shooting her lover who had spurned her. Hanged in 1955.
    Ruth’s father Arthur Neilsen(formerly Hornby) was a cellist from Manchester who spent much time at sea as a member of trans-Atlantic s liners’ orchestras.

    Thanks for thta Gulliver, I am sure there were many other incidents at sea where persons went missing under dubious circumstances but nothinbg was done about it.
