    Default process meat/

Hi shipmates, its not the food we eat but whats put into it The food industry in the U. K is no1 in transgenic foods, we are NOT told about this due to negative public reaction over the food we buy , it helps supermarkets to have better looking and longer shelf products much of the fruit and veg sold by them, have build in anti bodys. long term effects on animals /people are unknown There is a worrying lack of expertise in plant biochemisty due to lack of funds by the government. What will meat from cloned animals or hybrids do to us?

I have stopped eating Beef, it gives me gout, I suffered for years then I heard it was the uric acid in beef that caused it so I stopped seven years ago and never had gout since.
I got it in Australia seven years ago after eating many big beefy steaks I flew home with a wheelchair at different airports in extreme agony, stopped and never had it since. I do miss the steaks but not the pain.
So some food can have an effect on your health.
    Cheers

What a load of crap these people tell us. I've always eaten any thing I wanted to,and still do My favourite breakfast is an egg and bacon sarnie. What my late Wife always called a messy sandwich. I'm turned 80 and still eat that way. I still regularly go to the Pub and drink more than"they" say I should. We're only here once,as far as we know.Ignore the doomsayers and enjoy the ride.

    Default Why

I have always been a great believer in the fact that we only live once and not one of us knows what will get us in the end so just enjoy it. Capt K's recent Hawaiian episode is perhaps another stark reminder that any thing can happen at any time. The body is such a complicated entity that nobody really understands fully. Any one of us can unfortunately be struck down with just about any body failure at any time, often for no apparent reason. A typical example is my own wife's predicament; why after a simple case of flu is she still suffering some 6 years later with a viral complication which has rendered her disabled and in severe permanent pain?! Nobody in the medical profession can answer because quite simply no one knows what actually causes M.E. despite years of research. Many hundreds of thousands of people suffer horrifying diseases caused by Gods knows what. Yes, some can be blamed on the so called evils of drink and some nicotine and yet others are not affected. Why? An 82 year old lady in our village was killed recently simply because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and a delivery lorry ran her over. She wasn't in the wrong neither was the driver; it was simple mechanical failure. Was she a smoker or a drinker, who knows. She has probably been enjoying eating horse meat, halal meat etc., etc, just like the rest of us but in the end it didn't matter because after 82 years of living her life in the best way she knew it all ended in a simple accident.

Thousands of people die in car accidents which aren't even caused by the car they are in. A 10 year old boy was severely injured not far from here the day before yesterday when he was hit by an ambulance on a 999 call, people get killed by fire every day of the week. Our brave servicemen go off to war, some return others don't, again why? Who knows?? The bottom line is that for the vast majority of us our end will come caused by reasons over which we have absolutely no control what soever. My dear old grandfather lived to 101, survived the Somme in WW1 and who knows what in WW2, smoked all his life, enjoyed a drink and yet when he passed it was through simple old age and his body just gently shutting down. His lovely wife only managed 80 years on this earth and died from multiple strokes. No one knows why, the medical profession don't have the answers; it was just a simple fact of life.

So in conclusion until someone can produce a blueprint of life I will continue to eat what I enjoy, have the odd drink now and again and yes, continue to enjoy the fags simply because it helps me to deal with life. My dad gave up smoking and yet he died 10 years later of a stroke! My first doctor gave up smoking at 45 years of age and was dead a week later by a freak accident! Again I ask why why? None of us know and none of the medical professionals really know. If they did they would be able to do something about it. I shudder to think what will get me in the end but in the mean time I'll carry on the best I can, enjoy the odd bit of horse meat and the thousand an one other foods that if the so called experts are right will kill me with some deadly disease: why? that's simple ~ I have no bloody choice. Rant for the day over

Excellent post Tony and I agree with all of your sentiments EXCEPT your pro-smoking attitude.I'm not intentionally being nasty towards you or the other smokers aboard here, but I'm afraid you use the excuse that life is just one big risk anyway, and that if you don't die from a smoking-related disease, then you'll die from something else...

Smoking kills more people throughout the world annually than are killed in accidents. It is also an extremely selfish way of both self-harming oneself and affecting others lives either physically for them by smoking in their presence,or emotionally for them by destroying your body in front of your loved ones who may have to watch you die in great physical pain . Smokers also place a great burden on the National Health Service.

One may occasionally ,unknowingly( ! )eat a delicious 'Shergar burger or put oneself at risk of being wiped out on the M6 by a tired Roumanian juggernaut driver. Kismet! But Fate should not be tempted, and the smoking brigade,by ignoring warnings that Smoking Kills (and it most certainly does) seems suicidal and shows up how selfish and not in Control of their lives they are.
