Re: Some Quiz Show Howlers !....
I forgot about this thread and dredged it up in the Search Box.
On yesterday's Fifteen to One quiz show-which is considered to be one of the more cerebral of TV quizzes- a contestant, who in earlier rounds appeared to be quite brainy in answering his previous questions ,was asked...... Q/. "What domestic animal gives it's name to an early morning and early evening watchkeeping period at sea?"
A/. ........." (Pause)........Cat?" Dunno !.gif
I suppose though, that in years to come, all of our old nautical terminology will be 'alien' to those who've never been to sea,and even those today who are fast-tracked into commanding giant box-boats at 24 years old will struggle to answer similar questions like that.

Re: Some Quiz Show Howlers !....
Hi Gulliver.
I remember a quiz show from the UK years ago, very big at the time. The question, Who flies the Red ensign the person answered the Royal Navy.
We have a nightly quiz program here where even the quiz master is thick, in one question he asked ,on who's national flag in Britain is there a red dragon, the participant said Scotland, correct he said, I was stunned.
As you say most of the contestants are school teachers some who have been teaching for years and still as thick as planks, god help the future generation.
Cheers Des

Re: Some Quiz Show Howlers !....
Years and years ago Bob Monkhouse has a show on ITV in the UK. In one programme he interviewed a couple of woman on Blackpool promenade and told them that they had " Lost their scruples " but if they could find them again he would award them with a prize. These two woman spent days looking -- the lost property office, the police, the Council offices, you name it, they tried everything they could think of, even coming into Fleetwood to ask visitors on the promenade. All to no avail !!! Regards Peter in NZ.
