The worst thing, we had one winger who must have been a mummys boy. All his clothing was individualy wrapped in tissue paper and he would spend hours hanging it all up.

Many of those i sailed with who were as bent as an Arab's dagger where the funniest guys i ever worked with, You could not knock there work and once they new where they stood with you we were all in the same boat shipmates. We had one called himself spangles ......... The fruitiest of all fruits, He was brilliant with a razor he would always oblige if you wanted your head shaved or trimmed. After i paid off i was telling a few of the lads in the pool who new him how obliging he was. Then i was told the same guy would nick himself with a razor once a month and have his womans week off duty. I was scratching and scrubbing my bloody head for months Terry.

Had a cabin mate on the "GOTHIC" with a record player,same thing John, he only had Frank Sinatra. Even now when I here Witchcraft or Foggy Day in London Town I want to spew. The following trip I took along some Barber, Bilk and Kenny Ball, trouble was he'd paid off never to return. the only other player was in the cabin of my neighbour, a certain Mr and Mrs if you get my drift. I didn't like to intrude so they stayed unplayed.

When the ship i was on (Saminver )we was berthed in Dunedin wecwas having a party in the messroom most of us was getting a bit P.....ss when a couple of local black market butchers came into the room and wanted to join the party .They was also some guys off the ship next to us (Tower Hill )one of these guys told them to P....s off they just syood there next thing this guy pulls out of his jacket pocket a Luger pistol and stuck out the port hole and fired two or three shots what happen then everyone took off within half an hour the ship was full of cops anyhow the guy got the gun taken of him and was fined i dont know if he would be logged on his ship as thatsvthe last we saw of him

I think Spangles may have been a popular name back then as I recall we had a first class winger on the Pretoria who went by that name. Drove the head waiter mad, but the female bloods loved him/her as every night would come down to serve dinner with a different colour rinse in the hair.
I am also guilty of some of those records, Ray Coniff double albumn for 19/11 still got it with the price ticket on it.
