    Default laughter??

Hi Jim. Nothing annoys me more than CANNED LAUGHTER. If a joke or whatever is funny enough, then I may laugh. But to hear a non existant audience pxxxxxx themselves over what amounts to a couple of not in the least humerous remarks gets right up my nose. I can just imagine a sound technician reading his script and reaching for the 'laughter switch' at the appropiate time. If you listen carefully enough, you can actually hear the same type of laughter time and time again, especially where some non existant person in the so called audience is still pxxxxxxhimself long after the main laughter has stopped. Annd another thing I loathe is audience clapping and cheering etc. when it is blatantly obvious there is no bxxxxx there. What do the producers think we are--nuts! ha ha, and that one was not recorded.
    Regards
    Colin

Colin you are not alone in your dislike of canned laughter and clapping. It seems the modern way today to have some one else do your laughing for you. Seemed to originate from the USA and the way that they portray comedy as a long list of one liners with canned laughter after each one with no semblence of continunity (hope I got that right). To go back to basic comedy one could not go past the silent movies and the sounds of the audience laughing was infective. Trouble is now they are to bloody scared to put on a good show with using the canned much that probably was recorded from the movie house's that showed silent comedy movies. Can anyone else see how ironic that is. If some one falls down I still see the funny side of it unlike a lot today who have not experienced slap stick comedy.

Another gripe while we are it. Have you also noticed that with quiz shows that when the camera pans back to show the audience that there is some idiot in the front telling the audience what to do. Some even have boards to tell them if the audience is to dumb to understand actions.

    Default ghostly figures

Hi Ted.. To continue the theme--several t.v. shows, apart from canned laughter etc. often pan the camera round to show the audience sitting in their seats, but in that few seconds, one can see that they are faceless blurs in very dim lighting and this shot is commonly in use.
More. YOU'VE BEEN FRAMED. Why is it that someone with a video camera just happens to be present when some idiotic person falls over, or tips paint over their head or some other unrealistic 'accident'? Worse still, again the non present audience apparently pee themselves laughing even when the person being filmed could have suffered a real injury. THe worst clip that I saw was a young child sitting on a sledge hurtling down a steep hill and colliding with a group of young kids standing with their parents at the bottom. The 'audience' apparently thought that this was hilarious and shreiked with laughter. To my mind the majority of these clips are planned and the producers of the programme add the canned laughter machine as and when.
    Have a nice day!
    Regards ,
    Colin.

Can not really comment on these shows simply because I stopped watching them years ago. As for those fecking reality shows well I am having bloody trouble with them because it seems that our newspaper and news casts on TV are full of tales about them. Has you papers also turned into TV papers with a touch of news in them. It just feels like they are treating the general public as morons (not mulims LOL) and the sickening part it seems the general public is accepting it as such. Think I am living in a different time zone some times. Just glad that programs can be recorded and we then watch TV showing what we want which at todays standards there is only repeats of old shows that have any entertainment value. Must be turning into one of those old grumpy gits that I so dispise.
