Me Thinks you getting mixed up a wee bit!
The playhouse in Durban definately had a Roof!
The Del Monico in Cape Town had the Ceiling of Stars but the roof was there as well!
Too many Tipples both of you ! haha!

The one I often frequented was the Manchester Hotel, not far from the Grand. Had a great restaurant on ther first floor the food was very good and the waiters very friendly and obliging. Got me out of trouble on a couple of occasions.

hi E M. spent my 21st birthday in the bar of the playhouse. it had a roof and the interior was of stars, including a cloud or two.picked up a nice young lady in there. treated myself to a very old napoleon brandy which cost, i think about five bob;.
a bottle of cheap brandy cost about the same at the time.
