Weird first names.
I'll start with my name, Rodney, I hated it. During the war years on Itma (?) on the radio, a character named Flying Officer Kite told tales about his wing-man--Roddd...nahe, spoken in a very plummy accent. The kids in class took the p@#& out of me something fierce. I asked my mother where she got such a stupid name from, she answered "your grandfather was in the R.N. and served on the 'Rodney' (H.M.S. Rodney), I liked the name!" I answered, "I'm glad he didn't serve on the 'Dreadnaught', that's even worse". No tea that night.
George Bryges Rodney. 1718-1792. Vice-Admiral of the Blue and the White. In two years won battles against the French- twice- Spanish and Dutch fleets and captured 4 Admirals. Became Baron Sir Rodney in 1784.
Unusual, eccentric and down right silly first names are now the norm for African-Americans...my question is are weird names showing up in your countries? Following are a sample of first names that appeared today in our local paper celebrating the graduation of our high schools class of 2012.
Female:
Kavaxia Teir, De'Asia, Tiavonna, Ta'Shauna Zhane, Dyrese, Saquilla Takeia, Kevionna Latoya, Twanda, Radishia, Shakeema, Shaundashia, Shantia.
Male:
Dre'Shawn Jamal, Tewan Shaquille, Calvin Daquin, Dyrese, Antwan, Juniouse, Melquon Timmod, Dalvan Devante, Khadijah, Shirmatrell, Jarvis Juqwane, Rayvon Jamar.
A number of years ago, Rodney was the most popular African-American first name...I wonder if the knew they were named after an English Admiral? I wonder who Radishia was named after...a veggie?
Regards, Rodney

With great *^&**Ing difficulty
But have you seen the names given to some, and the modern spelling.
But I have a middle name I never use, WEdnesday. Apparently when I was born, or hatched which ever you prefer, the nurse told my mother you have a beautiful baby boy. Mum took one look at me and said, 'think i'll call it a day'.

A North American Indian kid came home from school and said to his Dad, `Why do us Indians have funny names? `
His Dad said, `Well son it is like this, in our culture we name children after the first thing we see after the baby is born, your sister is called Running Deer, because we saw a deer running past the teepee, your big brother is called Thunder Cloud, there was a big black cloud in the sky. Your younger brother is called Horse because a horse was stood outside the teepee, why do you ask, Two Dogs Shagging?
