Thanks for the video. I have sailed on a few old Doxford's like her pretty sure she is an LB water cooled bottom piston , cage type fuel valves, they weighed some weight. Engine driven scavenge pumps pre Turbo chargers.
You could just imagine Health & Safety these days. They would have a field day with all those exposed moving parts. A whole new industry would grow out of a visit to that engine room, Guards for this and guards for that. Those quadrants with the cooling water hoses!!! hot water spraying the top plates if a hose went.

Hope you enjoyed them Tom. If you watched to the end you will have noticed the final frame - of what is coming soon. I have a video featuring the mv Donegal from 1965 and that shows the engine room, part of the accommodation plus the deck, although the quality isn't great so will take a lot of editing.

It wasn't easy editing the film as it wasn't that clear. The video of the Donegal which I will be editing in due course - it won't be the next video I upload though due to the challenge it brings - poor quality - but does show the engine room.

For your information; some Specs, Engine Type -67LB4, Bore-670 mm, Bottom Piston Stroke-1340 mm, Top Piston Stroke-980 mm, Combined Stroke-2320 mm. Power- 4250 bhp @108 rpm. Crankpin Diameter- 18½", Crankshaft Weight 55 tons. Main engine pumps lever driven from scavenge pump crosshead - P&J cooling water, lub. oil and general purpose sea water.
October 1958 : Pacific crossing - 20 days 16 hours at an average speed of 13.1 knots and average engine speed 104.3 rpm. Sid Le Quesne
