ON THIS DAY

On the day in May 1945, convoy JW.67 the last supply convoy to North Russia of the Second World War arrived after a safe passage at the Kola Inlet. The 9th Escort Group was then detached to escort 16 U-boats from the Norwegian coast to Loch Eribol.
Note the two Norwegian freighters in the convoy, the Roald Amundsen and the Ivaran, carrying relief supplies to Norway did not go all the way to Murmansk, but left the convoy to proceed initially to Kirkenes, and later to Tromso.
