    Default 1935 T.E.Lawrence

On this day in 1935 T.E.Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) was fatally injured in a motorbike crash in Dorset.
Thomas Edward Lawrence, born in Tremadog, Caernarfonshire, gained fame as a leader of an Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire during World War One. Lawrence embraced Arabic culture in an attempt to empathise with his Arab partners and it was this ability which made him such a successful military leader.

Winston Churchill said of Lawrence, "I deem him one of the greatest beings alive in our time... We shall never see his like again. His name will live in history. It will live in the annals of war... It will live in the legends of Arabia."
"Our veterans did not forget about us .... Let's not forget about them." From Michael Levesque

This silent newsreel was released by Kodak as part of their Kodascope Library in 1927. The contents were shot by veteran journalist Lowell Thomas, who reported from Egypt during WWI and helped Lawrence of Arabia come to international acclaim. At :17, Port Sudan (on the Red Sea) is shown where supplies for Lawrence are being loaded. At :40 are shots aboard a transport ship bound for the front, where bearers bathe and eat. At 1:20 the ship is unloaded at the Arabian coast. At 1:52, a panoramic shot shows a large cargo ship off the coast as men on horseback speed away. At 1:58, Colonel T.E. Lawrence and Emir Feisal are seen in the "Royal Limo", a small truck which might be a Ford. At 2:15, Lawrence's unit makes an assault on a railway line using armored cars. At 2:29 Emir Feisal is seen posing in front of his tent and at 2:35 Lawrence's army of irregulars is seen. At 3:12 the regular Arab army is seen. At 3:20 they move up to battle.

What a wonderful piece of Newsreel that is Keith

Yes LOA was an incredible Man and did wonders .

The Movie LOA I have seen about 30 Times already and never tire of it,i think is a great take of the actual thing.

I dont think that they could have picked a better person for that Role ,the resemblance is quite remarkable well to my Eye!

Besides being in that Movie I think that Peter O Toole was one of the finest Actors of our time as well,i have seen a few of his Movies and can say that all were good.
One that stands out in my mind is Rouge Male a brilliant Movie!
    Thanks

    T E Lawrence

    LINK: Lawrence of Arabia

The Mercantile Marine had always played a major part in much of our history.

The title 'Merchant Navy' was granted by King George V after the First World War to recognise the contribution made by merchant sailors.

Though much could not have occurred without them, the King of the day was aware as were the armed forces.

Vernon, not wanting to spoil your entertainment but as with most so called historical movies there is a lot of untruths.
The movies must be entertaining so often there will be some parts embellished to make a point rather than tell the facts.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
