    Default Queen Mary

On this day (30/09) in 1945 The Captain of the Queen Mary claimed a new world record of 3 day 15 hours and 48 minutes for a transatlantic crossing from Halifax to Southampton. Bet he approached the Solent at some lick then!
Not a lot of people knew that

Lovely pic of you and your bride.
See telegraphs are set at full ahead, is that so you could get down to the reception/bridal suite ASAP? LOL

    Thank you.

Ha ha! I had never noticed that before! I think the rush might have been because (as required) she was late and they sound the whistle every hour.

Incidentally one of the 'docks' I work from is right ahead of her and the 1000 whistle get me jumping every time!

A few more recent pictures attached.

Never sailed on the Q.Mary but went aboard her many times to have a drink with the lads when I was on the Queen Elizabeth. Have to admit the QE had a ambience and beauty about her that the Mary lacked. In my opinion the Queen Elizabeth was the ultimate in ships beauty. Her lines were perfect. However as I have said before on this site, the beauty ended when you entered the crew accommodation. That was something else. Not where you would like your offspring to live. But for all that we all survived and still carried on going to sea.
