Re: Queen Mary
One of my mothers best friends who was my god mother, husband was in Cunard sailing up to Chief Officer on both the Mary and Elizabeth. He then joined Canadian Pacific rising to captain on the Canada and England and she always said that of all the ships she sailed on with him the Canada (the one that burnt out in Gladstone) was the finest passenger wise with all its fittings, panelling etc. being of lighter Canadian timbers whereas the Cunarders tended to use heavy dark wood panelling making the passenger areas rather gloomy.
The replacement Canada I sailed on was certainly a really fine ship passenger wise with some fantastic wooden marquetry of inlaid Canadian timbers throughout the public spaces along with the use of etched glass panels to give the appearance of a light and airy accommodation for the passengers.

Re: Queen Mary
This is a piece of Original Teak Decking Presented to me by the Queen Mary Foundation, for some research I did for them. There were only four pieces with that inscription on, One in the Glasgow Museum, one in the John Brown Ship Builders Museum and one was presented to Commodore Ron Warwick,
So it is a nice memento of a by gone age.

Re: Queen Mary
On Sky News TV today, .....
there is a search for the people who have had connections with the Queen Mary while in Service with Cunard since her Maiden Voyage in May 1936.
They have found an old Chef, who was on the Maiden Voyage 80 years ago next May. he is 103.
Must have been a good feeder.
Cheers
