Customs Dodges

Having viewed a number of the T V programs on customs control etc from around the globe it would appear that the greater majority of people caught with drugs is as the result of a tip off somewhere.

Speaking of tip offs.
I think I have told this story before.
In chittagong we had a jute fire in number two hatch. During a booze up (bad timeming)
Any way the depth recodrer wasn't working so I deciced to run a temp cable from bridge to the sender.
When I went down the fan compartment of number 2 hatch I found a parcel covered in indian news paper and tied with jute string. It had a white powder in it.Thinking that should not be in my motor room, so I chucked it over the side. Never told a sole.
When we arrived back in London we had a large rumage gang attacked the ship. Same sqaud in glasgow, Dundee, and middlesburgh, and back again at tilbury, and liverpool. they searched everwhere the can . Even inside main genarators..
They found nothing.
After leaving the company (brocklebanks) I worked for bt. Then after I got a job as bus driver to london with National Explress
On night driving to London my thoughts wondered(as they do) and it clicked Hell they must have been looking for that parcel.
I must have been daft as it must have been drugs. Honest I never thought . The parcel was about 6lbs.

Am I a real doedoe.

I had been 2nd elect on the Matra firstly then after I was made up to 1st I sailed on her sister ship Mahseer.
One of the crew had a bad bump in their accomadation. I was the poor lad who had to see to him Bandages and all. But something was bothering me and I could not think. I know that Mahseer was 5 ft longer but that should not make me happy. Then it struck me "Where to hell did that extra pillar come from. And that was the pillar that he fell against.
We stuck it with a hammer and it was solid. I would say so .

It was made up of rows of Capstain tins of 25 ciggs. All the way up from deck to deckhead. Covered in canvas and painted every year for years.
So some one lost out with that dodge.

All the ships I sailed on to beat customs I took the fire extinguisher emptied them filled them with fags just as well there was not a fire when the customs left filled my bag with fags got away with it every trip. R874850:0012:

Smoking kills, and so does smoke when you cannot put the fire out because there are no Extinguishers working.

I was on Stena Ro Ro's working out of Port Everglades and we ran down through the Caribbean, Jamacia, Barbados Haiti. As we were always back to Florida we always had a drugs & Stow way search before sailing.
It was the ETO found a load of Drugs stashed on the Cable trunking in the lower deck, this was in Kingston Jamacia. Skipper was called and he called the Customs.
They arrived and said thanks we will deal with it. The Skipper was a guy called Davy Bone, cracking guy and as hard as nails. Told the customs to observe what would be happening to the stash.
He told the C/Eng to get a 45 gallon oil drum and a gallon or two of diesel. This was placed on the loading ramp and the drugs (marijuana resin) was photograph and weighed. cut open and put into the now alight oil drum and burnt. The howls of anguish from the dockers and crew and the customs officers. It was as if someone had died.
It was noticeable that a number of people moved so they were up wind of the smoke lol. The fan intakes for the engine room were also up wind. Have to be honest what a watch, does this count as drug abuse?:p
