Tankers that had a short service life
The 1973 oil crisis certainly quickened the rush to the breakers yards for some tankers.
BP British Scientist was one such ship broken up after 10 years.
No doubt there were others that had even a shorter service life than her.

Am I mistaken I seem to remember a Tanker that ran aground before she ever lifted a cargo, was it an Onassis ship? There was speculation that it was a deliberate act during the oil crisis so as the insurers had to pay out as she was a total constructive loss, Olympic Banner?

Re: Tankers that had a short service life
I did trips on quite a few BTC tankers, on the British Guardian the skipper said that she had paid for herself on her first of my four trips on her, such was the price of oil, which shows why they persisted with the British Builder that was towed from Aus to the Gulf loaded then towed by another loaded BTC tanker to the UK. Stan in Canada was on her, but never told me that when I joined her in Newcastle after she had been patched up, enough for us to be out for twelve months, which included breaking down numerous times including off NZ for six days , thus missing any chance I had of seeing my brother who had taken leave from the Cuvier Island lighthouse to see me, bugger.

John the listings only refer to BTC and only goes up as far as 1956, it then became BPTC.
Your listing for the British Hawthorn 1964 is in this link. There is a photo of her on the slipway assume it was launching day.
She had a long service life 32 years before hitting the beach at Alang India.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bati...ss_supertanker
This class of supertankers possibility had the shortest life span. One of them was built in 1977 and scrapped in 1983.

Re: Tankers that had a short service life
That is her, sailed on maiden voyage to Sweden with a cargo of lube oil, then on to NZ for the second voyage.
Lasted some 32 years, not bad going.
