How many had these
How many when packing to join a ship put these in the luggage more or less straight away.
Sanyo.jpg
Sony radio.jpg
Also a box of pop music cassette taps.
Radio was for BBC sports world with Paddy Feeny
When I think back I really did not pack a lot of gear.

Re: How many had these
Yes, had a tape recorder and a voltage converter to go with it.
It was quite common for many of the catering crew to have such, turn to in the morning and hear a number of them playing, so many different songs at one time.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: How many had these
I bought one in Japan, it was like a briefcase .the bottom half was a record player, cassette tape player and a very good radio. The top half when opened split into 2 speakers, and could be placed about 12 feet apart .It even ran on batteries, a very well designed piece of equipment.

Re: How many had these
My first trip to sea I was lugging a big suitcase full of mainly useless uniform gear and work wear, by the time I retired many years later I was down to a small suitcase plus a briefcase for documents, certificates plus a mini iPod for all my favourite music and a small Gameboy type of thingy that I could play my golf game on. Brought a Sony tadio in the duty free store in Rotterdam. Most of my ships had a record player or cassette player provided by the company in the bar. By the time I had to give up we had satellite t.v, and play station supplied by the owners.

Re: How many had these
#4 John, had similar think it was a Sony or Sanyo. It was stolen in Wellington when my drunken cabin mate went to his bunk and didn't lock the cabin door. They left the converter though. Had a Phillips radio as well and that was stolen in Auckland by someone putting their hand through the porthole and grabbing it. Didn't bother after that.....

Snap John, first trip bought a National Panasonic Radio in Sarneckis, gave it to my mother who used every day until she passed away at 92. I got it back and it still works.
