Re: Immigration
As an added piece of info - here in the Netherlands even if you are 100 years old you pay full tax as a pension (s) is simply
seen as income. Only relief is that one does not pay the 19% tax deduction towards one's own pension.

By no way. Without a doubt the best state pension in Europe is the Belgian state pension . I get both Belgian and UK state pensions
both based on 20 years each with the belgian one being 40% more. Dutch state pension somewhere in between

Re: Immigration
Hi John.
Went back to NZ for three years, they not only taxed the pension but everything the Govt could lay its hands on.

Re: Immigration
Yes Des, they run a double tax regime on just about every cent you earn.

Re: Immigration
With reference to my post #23. Must have had thumb in bum and mind in neutral when I typed the numbers . Belgian state
pension is not 40% more than UK but is 2.56 times more. Dutch state pension a little more than UK. Note for Brexit remoaners-
EU planning to make all pensions equal for all EU countries. , even the poorest . Bye bye my Belgian pension , so just thank the Lord for Brexit.

It's called "levelling up" but in fact, it's "levelling down"

Re: Immigration
#27 That sounds very much like an offshore oil rig term Johnny . It took me some time going offshore from deep sea when someone would say we are ballasting up. Being years in shipping one didn’t ballast up ,a ship was ballasted down. Different jobs and different vernacular I suppose. A rig was ballasted up as you say on tow to decrease weight among other things, a rig floats on pontoons all ballast tanks also, and usually towing bridles etc were made fast to, and drafts or ballasting down was done mostly in bad weather. Anyhow had to learn a lot more terminology going from shipping to weird at the time other type of vessels, is history now. Cheers JS

Re: Immigration
As to immigration, an interesting bit on the net today concerning Germany.
The Pm there or what ever he is called has put forward a suggestion that some 2000 illegals in Germany be 'transported' to Africa.
Did not say which part, just Africa.
Happy daze John in Oz.
