    Default Lisbon fight night

Can anyone remember a bar in Lisbon where the main feature was a band playing in a large boat strapped high against one wall and protected by a chicken wire fence. It could get quite rowdy with the odd bottle crashing against the screen - much encouragement from the local 'Ladies'.
    God, what times we had!!

If my memory serves me correctly that was the infamous Texas bar.
I was in a bar round the corner from the Texas bar with the third mate, I was cadet at the time, when a bunch of RFA guys were drinking in the same bar, hearing our accents one of them came over to us, asking what we were doing there, speaking in a very plummy voice. We told him we were on a ship in drydock and asked him what they were doing there. He said he was a helicopter pilot in the RFA and the ship was carrying munitions for a naval base in Africa.
The third mate said, so it's true then, what, said the guy, pigs can fly, now eff off, replied the third mate. Well all let loose when the rest of the RFA crowd heard that. The third mate chucked a table through the window and we legged it, followed by the RFA. Turning round the corner we ran into two Portuguese police. Profusely apologies and we ran on, only for the chasing mob ran into same two police, Which didn't go down too well with the police. Last we saw of the RFA crowd they were being led away a gun point. The next day the captain of the RFA job came onboard our ship demanding to know why he couldn't sail as a number of his crew were locked up in jail after getting into a fight with some British seamen, nothing to do with my guys, said the captain.

Like so many great pubs and bars now all gone.
Last I heard of going was the good old JB in Southampton.
So where the bloody hell are we supposed to get a good beer now?
    Happy daze John in Oz.
