I think the Royal Albert Dock in east London is now the site of London City air port . I sure hope it smells a lot better than when I used to Dock there in the late sixties.

Hi Doug. You are quite right. I spent a week in London 2010 going round the places I missed when sailing from the Royal Docks. I could not believe what I saw.

Likewise with me too Bill, a few Years back now as well, but as you sday one is amazed at the big changes all over Londons Araes, some of them i could hardly say i recognised after the Years had passed. Mind you i guess we are talking about a very long time back now! LOL

But still with all the changes, London to me holds such interesting places and facts , there is always something to go and see. The Big Smoke ! I will always love it!

A few years ago I had a ride on the docklands railway
to Canary Wharf, different world, asked a railway employee
where West India Dock had been, looked completly baffled
no point in my asking about Charlie Browns pub, great times
around there.

Damn, these posts are sad. what are we? Last of the dinosaurs? it sounds like we are last of the knights in Armour, Pony Express Riders. Explores, Hard Hat Divers, Stagecoach Drivers, Blacksmiths, Wing-Walkers, and Uncle Tom Cobbly and all. I guess the last of us old farts, will turn out the lights on this site and fade off into the mists of time. Probably be one of our lady Sea persons as females live longer than males.

I was telling a cousin of mine who has a flat on Canary Wharf about what the place was like when I used to dock there, her reply was; it's much nicer now LoL. but to an old sea dog it isn't.
I wonder if Everton football club are going to play water polo there?

#5 the West India Dock is still there and beside the fact that the warehouses are pubs or other businesses. The cranes and other dockside facilities are still there as a forlorn reminder of what a bustling place it once was. The london docklands Museum is also there ,which I think is worth a visit in its own right , it has the complete history of the docks through the ages their development and demise including a potted history of the M.N. If you want to see what happened to Charlie Browns walk along past the museum untill you reach the open dock gates and on the outside of the dock wall there is a plaque to the Railway pub, known to one and all as the infamous ' Charlie Browns'.
When people talk about the the redevelopment of the docks they need to remember that it never stops. I remember one of the first bits to be redeveloped was on the corner of East Smithfied and Tower Bridge Roads just in front of St. Katherine docks which was then called the World Trade center in the 70's, that was then knocked down in the new millenium and a larger buiding built on the site. Another example was the London Arena which was a modern and large exhibition and function facility at Canary Wharf built for that purpose ( They held things like the Brit Awards there.) That was knocked down and replaced by a banking skyscraper. The new facility that was built as an exhibition centre is the ExCel centre in the old Royal Victoria Dock. There are at this time about another 13 planning applications lodged to build large sky scrapers at Canary Wharf. What seems to be happening is that the buildings become larger or are replaced as the land becomes more expensive and the present tenants move east like the original London denizens.

Going down the Thames to Greenwich the orator on board points out where docks were at one time and see what is there now!!!!!!!!!!!!bloody awful and very emotional for some.
Canary Wharf, now a financial center which is being extended and will have the tallest sky scrapper in Europe.

#7, Des it looks like Everton will have the best ground in the championship league the way they are going
