Post 1, yes, the building is still there, my son who lives in Liverpool sent a photo of it a few weeks ago.

RMS Saxonia (1954) - Wikipedia ????? Are these the same ?? Must be but look so different, must be after the upgrade of them?? Confused! LOL

Saxonia - Carmania - Ocean Liner and Cruise Ship Postcards (simplonpc.co.uk)

SAXONIA & CARMANIA - ShipSpotting.com - Ship Photos and Ship Tracker

Ah!! So these were Reefers! with the same names but ??? Still confused

I wonder if they are ex Salen ships as I found a photo of a salen ship called Synthia, looks the same class as the other two ships. I do not know a lot about Cunard ships apart from the passenger fleet. I do know they had a cargo fleet but never heard of them running reefer ships?

Think there is three there, you can just spot a 3rd funnel. I do remember that Birkenhead docks with the demise of the liner fleets, the likes of Blue funnel and Clan Line that used Vittoria docks as home loading port the dock was used as layup berth.

HMS Plymouth was lying alongside for a while and sadly was towed away to a breakers yard in Turkey. She was an exhibit along with HMS Onyx as part of the Birkenhead historical warship society. Sadly long gone as it just not get a lot of financial support or foot fall from visitors.hms-plymouth-620-517253282.jpgOnyx.jpg Both this RN vessels were involved in the Falklands campaign. HMS Onyx was built in Cammel Lairds , just a shame that she could not have been saved and kept on the Mersey.

#6 May be speaking out of ignorance here but was with Whitco Marine for a couple of years and thought or knew that they managed some of the Salen ships. They certainly managed the Finnish Wasa and the Temple Hall two different company’s and both came under Whitcos management which. I was lead to believe came under the umbrella of Salens as we were allowed cheaper fares on the ferry’s and also cheaper flights via Salens and the air line Cathay Pacific. JS
