Gallows humour... the best one I remember among all the flotsam and carnage of July 6 1988,was a first trip offshore FRC crew member when pushing off from the side of the vessel was “ God is it like this every night “ , the coxns answer , “Nah , just every second night “, I still laugh to this day over it . John, I once had to cut a colleagues hair at the immigration in Singapore before they would let him in. Playboy mags etc, and chewing gum also banned.
Heavy fines and punishments for littering also.

WE have one of the oldest jails here in Cooma, they have a Museum where there are death masks , One of which belonged to the notorious Captain Moonlight who was hanged in1887. Outside on a deck is a 180 year old gallows from Bathurst Jail, which was used to end the lives of 34 prisoners. If you are game and okay with the morbid, you can even pull the lever that opens up the trapdoor. Afterwards tea and tab nabs

In a small town just outside of Ballarat there is the old gallows from the prison there.
It was made to dispose of two malcontents at once though was only ever used once like that.
Once a month the local historical society do a demonstration of how it worked.
Have not been there to see it but presume they use dummies and not real person for the demonstration
