Never smoked, but remember in the late 40's the favourite penny cigarette for school kids was 'Nosegay'. In my courting days always carried a pack cigarettes and a lighter so could break the ice with the ladies who all seemed to smoke. Was the 'in thing' at the time.

#41 local tuck shop sold fags at one penny each. !!!!! was that some kind of UCL shop.
I was desperate to get my first pair of longs because the love of my life refused to go out with me because I was still in short trousers.
Who remembers those jeans when they had big turn ups? my first pair the turn up was nearly up to my knees . I was only a wee short a-se until I had a growing spurt when I turned 16.

Reminds me Open all Hours (One Episode) where the Lad wears his Jeans like that with large Turnups LOL
Yes me as well recall those turn up Jeans we used to wear , the real in Fashion then!

In the 50's and early 60's sent a lot of my leave time in the MN Hotel, Anlaby Road, opposite the side entrance of Paragon Station in Hull. Had a great bar in there, great dances, but you needed radar to get around with all the smoke, but we thought nothing of it then.

In the early 50's we didn't have cars, only bikes with a crossbar and a plastic mac to prevent the girls skirt turning green, a lot of parks in and around Hull, it wasn't called the garden city for nothing, yup! that was real smooth John

Unless you can afford tailor made jeans , where either the leg length is correct and the waist size out of all proportion or vice versa, Or the perfectly shaped person, it is usually the closest thing to fitting you buy, which invariably means about 6 inches too long in the leg .you can again take to a seamstress and pay more than you paid for the Chinese manufactured denims or just roll them up , which I normally do as the disparity between waist and leg length is too great.The best place to buy proper fitting of any trouser type I found was the USA where you chose the waist size in the shop and leg length was done there and then no extra charge. #53 Ivan was there a pub opposite the station called the Paragon Hotel where all the harlots used to get. If missed out at the MN Hotel was always a second option . JS
