Re: Summer visitors
I don't know if the wild fires in the Mourne mountains made the news on the big Island. The fire service have been fighting a fire for the past three days finally getting it under control last night. Thousands of acres of heather and other fauna have been destroyed. Local wild life will have been badly affected nesting birds will no doubt been badly hit especially at this time of year. Guess what the fire was started deliberately police are looking for a car that was parked at Bloody bridge on Friday morning at 1 am.
Great bit of reporting in the local papers
By the afternoon of Friday there were some 60 brave firefighters doing their best to maintain the blaze, with the smoke visible from as far away as Downpatrick,”
Obviously it was not job and knock..Attachment 32207

Re: Summer visitors
Yes it did make it on the Big Island and our thoughts were with you, as we have had three days of heath fires in Devon started by people leaving broken bottles and acting as magnifying glasses. People don't bother reading the abundant notices that explain why people should not leave bottles and tins etc in the gorse, they have no idea about cause and effect. As for educated reporters, our views are well known about them.

Re: Summer visitors
Lewis, Victoria where we live is considered one of the top, if not the top place for bush fires.
Last couple of years not too bad, but over the years some of the worst you could ever imagine, one some years back killed well over 150 persons.
1983 the fire was on a 500 mile front.
