always a moment of sadness seeing the white cliffs of dover outward bound wondering how long to see them on the way back .....but soon passed by the thoughts of flying fish weather and new sites and adventures ........life was simple then ........what happened ......

#1 Hopefully Michiko wouldn't be waiting on the jetty with all the little papasans, saying, this one yours, this one Cappy's, this one silver pit John's, and where my husband Lewis?

Had some lovely memories of those islands, though many didn't

My first 5 years on various ships, had always wanted to go to Japan, and then last two trips to sea both went to Japan. The first time, was courtesy of Cuba, as that was supposed to be Thames-Cuba for sugar-Thames, but diverted instead to Durban for grain and Japan, plus many other ports, and home after 10 months, but loved our visits to Japan. In those days discharging grain could be a fairly long process, so had a few days in port to get rid of some of that money accrued at sea, lol, and all those lovely Japanese girls, and woe betide caught talking to another, and you were called a butterfly, happy days, kt

We found the Japenese to be very friendly and helpful.
The one down side was when we got home, we spent about four weeks still bowing to all we met.
But their trains are something else to see, quite something now when you look at photos of 1945 after the bombs and look at the country now.
    Hard to believe at times.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
