Default Old photos of Coastal shipping

A friend of mine posted these old photo's to me on facebook. I now live in the beautiful coastal village of Carnlough in county Antrim N Ireland. My home is only a minute stroll from the little harbour. I am enjoying living right beside the sea again. Enjoy these wonderful old photo's. Not sure of the date these were taken but I would imagine about 1900. In all likely hood the ships would have been loading limestone. I am sure the harbour would have been a lot deeper then than it is now. The last photo shows the narrow gauge train that carried the limestone down from the quarry at the back of the village. It is locally known as the Cranny. The railway is long gone and it is now a scenic walk up to the Cranny and a water fall called Cranny Falls. The path/old railway actually runs along my property at the back. I have the last surviving Lime Kiln in my back garden and the pot bellied Chimney forms part of my boundary.

    hi lewis #1
a beautiful part of the country by all accounts, but not many places in NI that dont meet the same standards.
first time i went to NI in the sixties was because we used to land the queenies in donaghadee, took a while before i could understand the local dialect, but always had a great time.
