Re: Peoples names
I read that some covid deniers have caught covid and become deceased. Alas I have never seen this mentioned on any TV news channel which may change some deniers minds, but they do give air time to some idiot who declares that covid-19 is a hoax and Govt conspiracy to keep us under control. Then we have the idiots digging tunnels in London under the Cross-London rail track and are complaining that the authorities are not doing enough to protect their lives, they should be hauled out and jailed for endangering the public's lives, not forgetting if anything happens in the tunnels rescuers will have to endanger their lives to save them.

Re: Peoples names
Cappy, it was not a name that rings the bell every one knows it was Quasimodo.
Marion, As to things in tins, there was a third engineer on the Windsor, a Rhodesian at the time when it was still called that.
Good looking guy who pulled the ladies with ease.
But he had a tin in his wardrobe inside used condoms.
never did find out why he kept them.

Re: Peoples names
Marion, Victoria we saw so many odd events and things at sea it is hard at times to get shore siders to understand.
Like murphy senior second engineer who always went to bed, even with his lady friend in in his engine room boots.
As to names there were guys I sailed with whos name I never knew, just their nick name.
One that comes to mind was a BR by the name of 'Lucky' got the name he said from not being injured during the war.
Got stabbed in the back by some local in Cape Town, but he did survive.

Re: Peoples names
At sea, we rarely knew peoples full names, they were always Chief, 2nd, Lecky, chippie, bos'n donks, doc, chalky, dusty, ginger, or shortened christian names (or should that now be 'given names'), the nearest you ever got to a surname would be Smithy.
The only time you saw the full names during a voyage was on Lifeboat and Fire Stations lists posted on various bulkheads throughout the vessel

Re: Peoples names
On the subject of names. Many in the showbiz world give their children strange and unusual names. Mr. & Mrs Montgomery however were an average middle class couple. This is why I have often wondered why they named their son Field Marshall.

Re: Peoples names
Post#22. Louis, I can only think Mr & Mrs Montgomery were middle class farmers to call their son after a tractor!
