Philadelphia alongside, first trip deep sea M/V Dumurra. Lads had organised a party with nurses from a local hospital. Two nurses joined me in my cabin for a deck head survey. I could hardly walk for a week.

1959 Somewhere between Gib and Finisterre on SS Mawana (Calcutta to London), hoping to be home for my wedding in a month's time. Poor lass had to organise the entire affair - I just had to arrive on the day in a respectable uniform.

Re: Where were you on your 21st birthday (Second Ediition)
Same as me Harry,
I arrived home a week before my wedding.
Wife to be had done it all, even the wedding licence.
She hated doing that as she was in her nursing outfit.
Says all of the men there kept looking at her belly.
Claims that I still owe her seven and sixpence.
