Electronic communications.
We are all seeing today world wide the complaints from different countries abut their. Government departments being hacked more or less at will and blaming each other for doing so.
We now live in a world where citizens have been taught to rely on electronic communications for survival in some cases. A hacker can apparently get into any system he apparentally wants to..Today we live in probably the most dangerous time in history , we have seen the result of a fairly not too rare of a virus so easy to knock off the majority of people if so desired , could so easily be a more voracious virus. All communication and navigational systems can be knocked out at will , what happens then ? The only thing good that could be said , is, that there is no need to use nuclear bombs to destroy the worlds edifices. The only way would be used is by some maniac wanting revenge. As regards what we all deem to have some knowledge of ... shipping it would be blind and useless. At least 70 years ago ships would have instructions to proceed to various convoy joining points. Today most ships wouldn’t know how to get there without Satellite navigators and even if did manage to do so, would not be able to converse with no radio communication.would all be back to basics , and how many will know the basics in years to come if not today. Re: Electronic communications.
It is a very valid point, look at the latest attempt to hack into the Australian systems.
There was a case only a few years ago where a school boy in USA hacked into the biggest system in USA.
So it can be done and so easily.
But with nuclear weapons being out there, and so many of them, there is the chance some loony could hack into them and set off a reaction the world would never recover from.

Re: Electronic communications.
#2 Maybe the only thing missing will be human life form. The buildings will be intact and safe from the mongrels who want to pull down all edifices promoting history. Maybe its time for the apes to have a go. , followed by any animal form wanting to give it a go, they couldn’t do much worse than their former masters , man. Unless they have been listening to all this history on slavery by people wanting to change it. JS

Re: Electronic communications.
I don't know what its like elsewhere, but here on the Island a lot of places are not accepting cash, due to the covid thing, all the garden centres, golf club, many others, card only and mostly swipe system. Certainly heading fro a cashless society, kt

Re: Electronic communications.
There's been a covid tracing system on the Isle of Wight for some time now and now on the mainland. There have been people who were contacted via mobile and have not responded due to having to isolate for two weeks. Next week in the UK pubs will be open and before being served give mobile details for the tracking system also for payment for your food and drink as no cash will be taken. Until the virus has been totally eradicated I can't say systems like that will ever work.

Re: Electronic communications.
WE have some cashless places here in Oz.
Some say it is a push towards a cashless society, but according to the banks it will be at least 20 years before that occurs.
Too many older people and many migrants do not trust a cashless society according to surveys.
If going to such a system one has to keep a good eye on the account, it can soon get away from you.

Re: Electronic communications.
All for the love of Money Victoria.
Using cash does not give the Banks anything that is why they want cashless!
Like you i use cash at any place that will accept it. And most here do funnily enough.
Agree with what you say about Man Handling etc

Re: Electronic communications.
Have to agree with Victoria about the Tap and Go.
Just about every place you go has a different terminal and most times you have to tap about three times before it connects.
Think those that are saying card only do so to cut costs. No need for Armor guard or any other cash handling company to pay for.

Re: Electronic communications.
Cashless Society! Oh! Dear! one can envisage all the drug dealers carrying their little terminals and the addicts carrying their (or yours if you're not careful) cards to swipe it, just may end up with druggies becoming legal, then where will we be!
