I have just been following this thread from the beginning.....its quite amazing how it has 'morphed' into something unrecognisable from where it started :D and has steered a very varied course :th_thth5952deef:
That said ..... and in an attempt to steer back on course..... modern communications are fantastic but as someone said right at the very beginning 'what is the fallback?' We experience it now when, for example, there is a major delay on a motorway - its difficult to get a call because the mobile networks are swamped. Our wifi systems have been overwhelmed since 'home isolation' started. If satellites get taken down in any conflict - many of our navigation systems will be rendered useless. If our comms satellites get taken out.....say goodbye to much of the global comms capabilities. We have already seen the effects of some cyber attacks. Technology is great...but there is always someone out there trying to defeat it. We cant afford complacency.
The intelligence services still use typewriters (without carbon paper) - they are secure. Ship-ship comms in convoy - an aldis lamp is the most secure form of communications. Finally good old morse code for long range communications.
Like I said....if all else fails then its back to basics but if they (whoever 'they' are) don't teach it then that skill set will be lost eventually.
Yes Peter , seems that its the way of the Seaman to veer off course at times, but still try and get back on whenever we can, like you now ! LOL
Thanks !
I have over the Years tried and tried to get the Threads to stay on track Peter, and have in the past had some awkward moments from some, however as it seems that all my work and Words did not do too much in changing the habits of these here Seaman, well i said to myself the old saying! If you cannot beat them then join them !!! Eeeek! LOL
But in all fairness most threads seem to stay on track most times! Mmmmm!!!
Vernon, at times attempting to keep a thread on line is like trying to walk a straight line late Saturday night just as they close.
With interest rates as they are, here in Oz you can be better off drawing out all your cash from the bank and if on a pension, re submit your assets and get an increased pension.
