Re: The Police State ?
John, I agree with you all the way, We in Liverpool have a museum dedicated to the slave trade in the Albert dock i have visited with my kids and grandkids many times in fact its been inducted into the local school curriculum schoolkids from all over the Merseyside region and beyond are taken by the school them selves. You cant wash our hands of everything regarding the slave trade. As you say it happened it made people fortunes but its also a part of this Cities heritage and history and it would be wrong to deny young schoolkids this foresight of Liverpool's maritime history. As for Penny Lane.
In July 2006 a Liverpool councillor Barbara Mace proposed that streets named after slave traders should be renamed.
The plan was criticised by those who argued the negative parts of history should not be "airbrushed" and was later withdrawn. I really think there will be change and Martin Luther Kings dream will come to fruition. But you cant change history. In the words of another song by the Beatles LET IT BE...…..…… Terry.

Re: The Police State ?
Let us not forget, it was not only coloured people whop were slaves, many white people were also slaves.recently…..
Lou Baron was a slave, when he was in Singapore as a guest of the Japanese.
There is a book , THE WHITE SLAVES, all about the slave labour of the Japanese PoW ,
As Lou said, only one bowl of rice per day, per man, per haps. or eating beetles, rats and anything else they could get their hands on. A all in Lou`s story.
The Bridge over the River Kwai was built of slave labour, British PoWs
Do we have to pull it down now??

Re: The Police State ?
I had an uncle Brian, Who was held prisoner by the Japs in Burma, He spoke very little of his experience while P.O.W. I agree with you if people where ever oppressed then it was Japanese prisoners of war. That is the reason Japanese schoolkids don't have history lessons as regard to the war years.
A hell ship is a ship with extremely inhumane living conditions or with a reputation for cruelty among the crew. It now generally refers to the ships used by the Imperial Japanese Navy and Imperial Japanese Army to transport Allied prisoners of war (POWs) and romushas (Asian forced slave laborers) out of the Dutch East Indies, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore in World War II. The POWs were taken to Japan, Taiwan, Manchukuo, Korea, the Moluccas, Sumatra, Burma, or Siam to be used as forced labour. Terry.

Re: The Police State ?
in today's news there's an article about an American Oxford University graduate , she is working as a museum curator at Royston Hertfordshire,
Madelene Odent tweeted that you can destroy Bronze statues with certain household chemicals and also said Churchills statue is next, to me
that is incitement in an already dangerous time. I hope she gets the sack and also think she should lose her right to live here, I've already
stated my opinion of university's, they are a hotbed of would be rebels, I am sick of what is happening to our country, and to see the capitulation
that will only allow it to get worse.

Re: The Police State ?
The Taliban destroyed statues as did the communist regime in China under Chairman Mao's rule. While there could be a case for removing some statues, it's not up to the extremists and their methods of violence to dictate to the majority of decent citizens.
If you get rid of the statues you start to rewrite history. Change the message on the plaques but if you remove the criminal you remove the crime.
Political violence on the streets is not acceptable. Neither is the lack of leadership or appropriate policing. Black lives matter, the body who were protesting initially, should denounce those who bring shame to thier cause and the right to protest peacefully within the law.

Re: The Police State ?
Hi John.
Your post on why Aboriginal children are still taken from their families is, as you say, in order to protect them. One Aboriginal bloke raped his THREE month old daughter she had to be rushed to Adelaide for surgery, rape among families is common, just as it is among whites, but not to many people shout when they take the white children away, as they know it is best for the child.

Re: The Police State ?
Those who fail to learn from history are certain to make the same mistakes in the future.
History is and cannot be undone, remove what you may it will not change things.
There is a push to remove the Rhodes statue, fine but do those who want this done understand that Rhodes left a fortune to be used for education and from that we get the Rhodes scolars.
This goes to show the ignorance of so many in the community, a failure of the education system for no longer teaching history.
When employed in the Uni we had a teacher training course, easiest to get into with the lowest marks.
When I think back at some I saw I now understand why our kids are so far behind the rest of the world in basic education, maths, English, science etc.
Those students were all from the radical left more interested in social aspects, such as how to claim the dole than any thing useful.
But as to putting a ban on such things as movies such as Gone With the Wind and many more, do they understand they will create the biggest black market the world ahs ever seen?Once you ban something there will always be those who are inquisitive and will want to find out why.
But times are changing, last night on our TV that left wing socialist heap of crap, 'Get Up' put out an add with young kids all about, Climate Change.
The other point that many miss is the rate of murder, violence, rape and other crimes which ae all Black on Black.
We have them here in Oz, up north particularly in the Alice, they get on the grog and that is it.
I have seen them sitting in the Todd River at low tide total oblivious to the world stoned out of their minds. Then the rains come and the river fills then the real problems start.
From what I have gleaned in USA Black on Black accounts for almost half of all crime there.
There is now talk of putting a ban on the Confederate flag in USA.
Fine, but do they realize how those in the deep South will react to such a ban, more problems will come from that than will be solved.
