About three weeks ago a spokesman for NASA said the term, 'Climate Change' is not the correct term to use.
It is beginning to scare people in a way no one ever imagined, to be correct it should refer to extreme weather patterns.

He may well be correct, look back at events of previous years and very often there is a pattern.
here in Oz we get droughts at regular intervals, usually followed by floods.

Victoria is often referred to as the Bush Fire capital of the world, when we get them here in Victoria they ae always bad ones.
In 1932 a very severe one in Lara, crossed the highway and wiped out the town.

In 1983 the extremely bad one previously mentioned that burned across a 500 mile front.

Followed up a bout 10 years later by a very bad one in the Dandenongs, one fire crew of four burned alive in their truck.

Then in 2019 the Marysville one which saws the town destroyed and 179 lost their lives.

The 5 years later the Seymor ones that destroyed an area twice the size of London.

Such are the events of Oz, all been seen before.
The current fires are bad, but we have had them before and will no doubt again.

These are nothing to do with the climate, global warming or any other factor brought about by man.
The Southern ocean warms, undersea volcanic actions increases the level of heat, this is part of the Gulf Stream, as a result rain fall in the south dries up.
the land drys out and the following year with so much undergrowth all it take sis one lightening strike to start a bad fire.

We also get fire bugs, and some are caused by the magnification of the suns rays through a bottle or some form of glass lying around.

So Terry, go and take a good look well back in the history books and you will find similar weather patterns in your part of the globe have occurred in the past.

The you have the extremely mad 'Greens' claiming the current fires as the fault of man.
The poli who said that got such a serve from other polis we expect him to go inti hiding for some time.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

I just remembered, there is a company on the Wirral that does just that, they are called Combined Harvesters, a bit misleading, but they specialise in harvesting rainwater etc.

    Hi Terry
    re, floods,
No one dredges anymore, cost money.
If water can get out no flood.
All the little coastal ports have closed and no more dredging.
I am in Fleetwood, the port closed by Europe a few years ago, so the dredging stopped.Sand bars have now appeared across the River Wyre I can see them growing daily. The River Wyre is silting up.very plain to see. up river the village of St Michaels was flooded for the first time. The rain from the hills of Cumbria flow down the river but cannot get out into the sea fast enough so it overflows the banks.
The sam has happened in Derbyshire today , no one dredges, I am amazed at the lack of intelligence in Councils, Not one has suggested dredging.
Lower the river bed by five feet and the river surface level will go down five feet, and will not overflow the banks.
    Simple.
BUT Dredging costs money and they will let the floods come so the people have to pay with their destroyed homes.

We have a similar problem with Newport harbour on the IOW, silting in the harbour is at its worst in the crop gathering season, when the sandy soil is washed down in to the river and stream, and in to the harbour where the cost of removing and dumping incurs huge cost. The answer would be to dig it out of the streams and rivers before it gets to the harbour, it could then be put back on the land with no contamination, but will they do that, no, because the cost would fall on the river authority, so easier to let the harbour silt up, crazy, kt

It's not the council's fault, the EU set parameters for dredging. In the old days the spoils from dredging were returned to the land, under EU rules dredging spoils are treated as contaminated waste and cannot be used.

Something else to thank them for Vic, the local councils dispose of household refuse in landfills, if that's not contaminated I don't know what is
having said that what is to stop them using the dredging waste for landfill, probably a lot less toxic than household waste.

According to today's Daily Mail, the UN Climate change panel are now turning their attention to shipping. They want ships to travel slower in order to reduce C02 output.
Ships are regarded as worse polluters than aircraft.
Should be interesting to see what happens.

Vic, they have been saying that for some time now but there is little evidence they are right. Many now run on a combination of diesel and gas and now some on gas alone.

Massive rows here regarding the bush fires, the 'Greens' say lack of gov policies are to blame, but the country MP's say it is the 'Greens' who will not allow burning off to reduce the level of undergrowth.

Interesting today about two thirds of USA are in the grip of an early winter with big dumps of snow, no comments from those blaming global warming for this one.
As one commentator said, extreme weather patterns once again, but we have had them all before!!!!

Brian, Its official Venice is flooded, The water level has risen 6 foot, I don't think Venice was ever dependent on dredging.
