If you look at the complete story on what is going on here in Oz, and you have to live here to fully understand, rather than rely on some cut and paste propaganda from the media you would have a far better story.

We have a 'Green' lead group mainly students who will always vote against any gov in office.
The hatred of the PM is brought about by them lead on by the 'Green' lot who support Labor.

The Australian media is well known for a dislike of any Liberal gov be they state or Federal so more adverse publicity is quite common with them.

It is the responsibility of the States, not federal, to implement fire control regimes but most have failed to reach a suitable target over the years.
It was the PM who intervened and brought in the Army reserves to assist as none of the states had bothered to ask for Federal assistance.

Had previous state gov done what was suggested by various previous fire related enquiries much of this would not have happened.
They ban logging in native forests, a practice that has seen good management practices which have reduced the fuel load, banned cattle from the high ground resulting in growth that has added to the fires. All to keep in faith with 'Green' voters afraid that if they do not they will be out of office, Labor that is not the Liberals.

They have refused advice from the Aboriginal community, groups that for centuries have managed the bush and know how the keep fire risks low.
However fires in most instances have been the result of lighting strikes and nothing can be done about that.

Various state govs have allowed properties to be built in known fire risk regions with no controls on land clearance, this has been the main cause of property loss of over 2,000 homes.

By putting up just a cut and paste on such a subject,t on a site one to the public, many in other countries who know nothing of Australia and the terrain orcircumstances is an irresponsible act that will give a very one sided version of the truth.

Reminds me of the protesters who will chant and complain but do nothing to assist with the problems at hand.

Australia fires 'long way from over' but rain brings relief.

Massive bushfires in southeastern Australia have a "long way to go", authorities have warned, even as colder conditions brought some relief to exhausted firefighters and communities on Saturday.

After a blustery night that saw a series of massive infernos in New South Wales and Victoria states merge into a mega-blaze four times the size of Greater London, temperatures dropped and rain fell on fire-scarred regions.
"Whilst it was a very long and -- in parts of New South Wales -- difficult night, we're relieved this morning that no lives have been lost and no substantial property damage," New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian told reporters on Saturday.

The milder conditions are expected to last around a week, giving firefighters time to try to get the fires under control.

Yes John, they are everywhere now and still growing. My son is self employed generator commissioning engineer, currently working off Gt. Yarmouth installing temporary diesel generators on the the wind turbine structures to provide power until the wind turbine is up and running. To date he has worked on large installations offshore Holland, Germany, Denmark and several locations offshore UK. Projected work outlook at the moment is quite unlimited.
It always makes me wonder though, why do we see them stationary so often when there is a reasonable breeze that would be useable.
I am guessing that they have base load covered by traditional power stations with extra demand covered by wind turbines.

Read an interesting article not too long ago regarding electricity generated by offshore wind power whereby when not supplying electricity for the national grid they could use there electrical output to convert sea water into hydrogen and store it for use in either hydrogen fuelled cars or even to fuel power stations.

A read that wind turbines have a diesel engine to power the rotor blades when there is no or insufficient winds.

That's interesting Vic - I have often seen the wind turbines here turning when there has been very little wind and wondered what was turning them, doubting the wind was not strong enough.

Don't think any wind turbines have diesel generators installed for when there is no wind. I know that it only takes gentle zephers for the blades to start turning and produce electricity.
