Certainly, concerned here if just one media headline is correct.
Tens of thousands of residents and holiday goers in the Australian state of Victoria
have been urged to evacuate “immediately to survive”, as escalating bushfires threaten
an area the size of Montenegro.

just to add a little perspective, Australia has a land mass of 769 million hectares, 3.5 million are bush fire affected. roughly .0045%, not that much in the overall picture. and yes, I do feel compassion for the lives and property lost. hope we all can have a safe new year.
Makes no difference on the % really its all the loss and suffering that all here are feeling,the % is that of the whole of Australia ,now just how much of that is Inhabited?? Remember we are talking about Areas that are Inhabited not Forests that are in Remote Areas here.
I know you feel for all but its not a matter of doing a percentage ,the Toll is real here .
Just look at the latest that is happening on our South Coast of NSW and all the other States , This is a real crisis! Never before seen .
One has to live with this sort of thing to understand just how terryfying it can be!
We know ,we live with it/ If one has to put a perpective on it then take Singapore as a size and Multiply that by around 29 times,which gives you an approx Area that has already burnt here in NSW ,and is still Burning at a very fast rate ,the there is as said other States that are just as bad off, its just not possible to imagine, its like an Armegeddon here!

Our thoughts are with you all, many of us have close friends and relatives in Australia and all we can do from afar is hope that they will remain safe, unless you are actually in a situation you cannot imagine how frightening it can be, as you say % means nothing in reality.Quote:

If all was missed in your area, it happens but, latest here in the UK are reports that the UK has recorded its hottest December day ever.
Temperatures of 18.7C were recorded in Scotland over the weekend, the highest ever measured in the UK during December.
This year has already seen the hottest winter day on record, when a temperature of 21.2C was taken at Kew Gardens in February. It also saw the hottest day on record in the UK, when 38.7C was registered at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens on 25 July.
All continues a pattern of high-temperature records in the UK over the last few decades, as a result of our warming climate.
The weather is only part of the global effect.

According the UK Met Office the mild weather that we are having in the UK is caused by warm winds blowing 1,000 miles from the South, and are nothing to do with Global Warming or Climate change. The exact same conditions were experienced over 170 years ago according to records.Quote:

These firefighters are true heroes.
I don't know how may countries are offering support, but surely the European nations that have the fire fighting aircraft should offering assistance, after all their aircraft are not being used at the moment.
