Re: The assumption a hard ship was a happy ship
Every ship was a challenge Lewis that was part of the attraction of the job. Apart from the beautiful sunsets and the sunrises over mount fugiyama , and the bottle of Asahi beer waiting ashore poured out by a diminutive painted female giggling and your only worry was that Cappy hadn’t got in before you into that oasis of niverna. Job satisfaction kept most who stayed at sea there. However that was in sharp decline when I retired so was lucky. The ships changed and the generations with them. Just like climate change I suppose. Cheers JS

True John, I never liked working for BP, to many back stabbers in that outfit sorry but usually some gob s-ite of a 2nd mate who thought because he was the ships safety officer he was a god. More than one of them learnt the hard way up the road while having a beer.
Re: The assumption a hard ship was a happy ship
BP stands to me for Blood Pressure. As to Shipping I remember them as BTC British Tanker Company. Was never a proper tanker man always found they were a. different breed as regards safety consciousness used to make me nervous. Give some people a bit of authority and it goes to their head. That’s how Hitler got to the top of the Xmas tree, just threw the fairy off. As to the moaners and stirrers on ships just give them a bit of authority and watch how their demeanour changes. It is the same through every walk of life. BP also between perpendiculars JS

Those of us who are vertically challenged, rather than circumferencley generous learnt to use our brains, shook hands and went on our way, but each to his own, but not going around in circles as have been dancing and done enough of that for one night, sweet dreams

I never put anything down to the Napoleon complex I put a lot of it down two in the early days are sailing on ships there was an awful lot of religious bigotry floating around and that could be really nasty
