Vernon mate, if you are going to start bilge cleaning would it be possible to keep an eye out for a set of dentures, Alf said he lost his and not sure where. Last I heard he was making a quick exit from the heads before Queenie went down there so they could well be in the bilge. That is unles of course the ships cook, who shal remain nameless at this time was using them as pastry cutters. But be quick about it Vernon, the blue peter is flying and we are off, and I thought it was the drains, to find us a volcanic island for Den to practice on.

    Hi All.
Hey john lava bread is not made out of lava or is it bread. Its a Welsh Del-ac-sea BARA LAWR. Made from seaweed, and looks like a rather warm cow pat. Yuck. So we will have to find something else to go in DENS tabnabs.
As for going in the bilges to get extra money. THHHHHHHH.Rasberry. Mind you theres no rats down there theve all abandoned ship as they were starving. Maybe we could try fishing for those false teeth. they might be starving too .Or we could send philip in there , they say he,s used to going into tight black holes. But dont tell queenie or maybe we should. He,d be in there like a rat up a drain pipe.Mad mick might be up to it as well.

    Default Lava bread

My W.R. loves the stuff. Me! I think its bloody awful and looking at it on a plate gives me the heaves. Remember on the 'Shaftesbury the Mate who was a gentleman (unusual that as he was Welsh) kept on about the properties to be found in lava bread. We had docked in Newport, Gwent look you and the 'Old Man' called me to one side before breakfast and said, 'No matter what the Mate orders for his breakfast give him the dish that the galley send up and make sure you have a salver cover it'. 'Aye, aye Sir' say's I coz I was a right little creep. Everyones' in for brekkies and up turns Mr Anstie( still remember his name). 'Just the bacon and eggs please stwd,no beans or tom's and may I have some fresh toast?' 'Very good Chief, right away'. The 'Old Man' gives me a hard stare. off to the serving hatch goes I. 2nd Stwd hands me this bloody great plate with a salver cover, 'Give me some fresh toast as well please'. Back I goes to the Mate with salver and places in front of him. Me I think he had an idea of what was coming, but as polite as ever, 'Thank you stwd and is that my fresh toast'. Well I remove the cover and the saloon erupted. The 'Old Man' was a Geordie and a good 'un to. ' Right Mr Mate, you like this lava bread it's all yours'. Fare go to the man he scoffed it all but asked me to supply him with lots of crispy bacon.
The story goes he was a R.N. officer during the war and came out of it highly decorated. Me I remember him as a first class gent who was polite to all crew members. We also had a 3rd mate on board another Taff built like the proverbial s***house. Stood about 6' 5" and nearly as wide. Had an Irish EDH on board who didn't like
stwds' and took great delight in looking for ways to pulverise them. I know the time had come and I was next on his list and had put by a nice 'plank' of wood so if I went down he was coming with me, but I was s******G myself. We were in Santa Fe in Argentina and Bosun came up to me and said , 'How long you and the 3rd been mates'. 'Why' say's I. It appears he waited til he was alone with Paddy and is supposed to of said 'Touch Mick the saloon stwd and I'll beat you to death with your soggy arms after I've ripped 'em off'. Paddy never ever bothered me and the 3rd had what ever he wanted for brekkies or any other meal.

Well lads I see we've cracked the 1000 mark so well done to you all and can we now get on with doing some sailing. Mike

Nice story Mike. goes to show, there are some good Taffy's around after all, contrary to popular belief. Just kiddting x Taffy 2. Dont put the Welsh curse on me.
Cant believe that Paddy was a mean one. As a rule they are none fighters [yeh right]
As a baker of many years. I have never come across Lava bread. Must lead a more sheltered life than the rest of you.

Well Taffy I had heard of the stuff before though never had the pleasure of actualy eating it. But from your description of it maybe we can use soem as frisbies, or maybe shuffle board? What other delights can we find in teh food department to go with the lava bread and black pudding. I do believe we have been eating black pudding for some time though Den swears they are just well cooked sausages. Most of the rats ate soemof the tab nabs and when they fell into the awter sank to the bottom, those tabnabs are heavy, ans as for the teeth we just have to hope thta Queenie does not take his/hers out or Madmick will be in real trouble.

    Default The Bitch is back

Will you lot stop giving poor old Den a hard time, There is nothing wrong with those sausages, I only de-frosted them 2 months ago, so they should still be O.K. and the Semolina is spelled like that, not Simonala, ( can't remember how to spell it ). Well back to the Galley for a trifle......Take care....Terry
