You're right Des. Three score years and 21 - being octogenarians is all in the mind. Glad you had a good one.

I have heard it can also be in the bones, the hearing, the feet, the bladder and other parts as well as the mind.

Yes John, that is what pills and potions are for. I woke up the other morning and nothing hurt, thought I'd karked it but then realised I had forgotten and had taken a couple of Panamax twice before I went to bed.

Just make sure you do not mix up two lots of Panamax with EXLAX before retiring, you may well end up in the **** if you do!

Unfortunately, I've no independent recollection of my own 21st birthday in 1961.

My discharge book tells me that it occurred during a three-week break between ships and so, therefore, I cannot lay claim, as others might, that, for me, this milestone in life was an unforgettable experience spent in some exotic corner of the world, locked in the firm embrace of a Gina Lollobrigida look-alike with a nymphomaniac disposition, overcome by her sweet-scented breath as into my starboard ear she whispered mind-boggling suggestions for ways to further enhance the wonderment of our copulation (I should be so lucky). However, mindful of the unfettered social lifestyle I adopted at that time in my life, I can only assume that the significance of the day was swallowed up in the alcoholic haze of my existence, as with like-minded seamen I spent my leave trolling the pubs, clubs and gin-joints of London's east-end.

    Sad, ain't it ?
