#1... Keith about 1956 we were in Cochin, I was nightwatchman so was off during the day so used to go ashore. Being only 19 suppose was very impressionable . After seeing this young girl sitting on the kerb in the process of childbirth and everyone walking around her, believe she was one of the untouchables, so what , I also walked around her, which I have always regretted , and is one of the things I am ashamed of. I hopped into one of the ginshaws I believe called and told the bloke on the push bike to take me to a drink. He Took me to a place in the bush where they were drawing the sap from a tree and think it was wood gin.l later saw one of those Indian fortune tellers who told me I was going to die before I was 40 so told him if he could see into he future he should already know I wasn't going to pay him. Maybe he had seen me drinking this alcohol and thought he was on to a sure thing. Anyhow am still around at twice the age he forecast. Some things one remembers like yesterday but what did last week haven't a clue. Cheers JWS
