Default The wit of shipboard Queens

We have all been looking at a lot of serious issues on this site lately so on a lighter note I thought I would post this. Yesterday evening I was swinging the lamp over a few beers with an old shipmate we were talking about various characters that we had sailed with and the antics that some of them got up to He came up with this gem.
He was sailing on one of the Union Castle passenger/cargo ships and like a lot of those vessels there were quite a few very camp catering staff who liked nothing better than a chance to embarrass their senior officers, This particular Queen was sitting in the foyer in front of the pursers bureau camping it up when a rather irate junior purser crooked a finger at him and said to him and to everybody in hearing distance.' Rose I want you.' Dave Rose's instant retort was ' Play your cards right dear and you can have me homeward bound '

They sure wre agreat bunch on UCL, put some great shows on in th epig and yes very sharp with the wit.
In first class they wers so popular with the ladies to the extent that they even shared perfume etc with them. No bother to any one who did not want to be bothered and very hard workers.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

Many a laugh with the Queens. Every passenger ship I was ever on had them camping it up for laughs. As you say John hard workers and very quick to spot if you were TRADE or not.

Pendennis Castle was their headquarters, so much so that it was rumoured that Pendennis would go up and down Southampton Water stern first.

I had some good laughs with the "girls"some of you may have sailed with Frisco what a laugh. In London (same ship DR)some of the lads brought a girl back to the ship one night problem was getting her back ashore.Frisco was asked to take her back out of the gate and say it was his sister. The banter and pantomime for about an hour was hilarious "if you bothered with me you would'nt have this trouble" "You've had the sweet now taste the bitters" and so it went on.

What ever are you suggesting Alan ? Our Lazy Daze may be Strange by name;.... but by nature ? I very much doubt it !
