John Sabourne ref 21, and shifting boards, you are of course quite right, i looked through my discharge book, and racked my booze damaged and 73 year old brain, and now recall we sailed light ship to Cuba, turned around and to Durban for grain to Japan, the shifting boards were fitted there, and not Rotterdam. Reading #32 Ron , the fireman's Bhandari always knew , on UK Pool Crewed ships , the second cook / baker always seemed to know what was happening next , i commented one day that he always knew what was happening before the Old Man ever announced it , simple he said , one of the dock side men in Bantry went in the galley for a quick bacon buttie at six AM , and he knew what the movements were , We always got tolds a couple of days after we left port , which to my mind was stupid , what weer we going to do , swim across the bay to spain ?

When I was on oil tankers on the Curacao to the east coast of the USA run, you had to do 3 months before you got the bonus, cannt remember how much it was but I got it a few times.;)
