Bidets... Was in a motel in B.A. with someone, and got up to the toilet, hadn't had much to do with bidets and thought it was an urinal so used it as such , on pulling or pushing what I thought was the flush, a stream of water shot up and hit me in the eye, could always recognize a Bidet after that. #40... Richard it was 1978 when I first went into the shipping side of the oil and gas business offshore which bears no resemblance today of what the job was then, it was work hard and play hard. I had to go back as Mate and learn a whole new way of life. The ships now are all built for labour saving in those days and prior it was all physical hard work working with heavier gear than one saw deep sea. Try flaking out half a mile of rig anchor chain by hand on your deck. Anyhow saw skippers after a successful job would get all hands on bridge, (10) open a 40 oz. bottle of whiskey and throw the cork over the side, nobody left the bridge until the bottle was empty. The same applied ashore in the harbour pubs, saw a diver go out of a pub door horizontal like a rocket, had gone up to the Skipper and said to him I'm the Diver and your the Driver. The skipper was about 6 feet 4 inches and had hands like shovels. When you see the offshore people/crews now they are like children waiting to be punished if they put a foot wrong. As usual once these exploration and all the hard work has been done then the do gooders steps in and tries to make the industry more presentable. They would have a fit nowadays if they saw what we got up to. Cheers John S.
