    Cool Brian

I agree with you brian, because if i was
in that frame of mind,i could have mentioned
the many times i used the woolwich ferry.
i would cross one way to join a ship, then
the other way to go back home.
    mike

please note i have added "deep sea" to your original post.

    Default Short Trips

    Hi Brian
Just looking through your posts for shortest trips. I have not seen one to beat mine,
how about 4 hours.I was on the Middlesbrough Pool and I was sent up to Glasgow to join one
of Furnace Witheys ships I had to go to the Shipping Federation Office in Glasgow and signed on
as a EDH. On arriving at the said vessel the mate told me whats what and handed me over to the Bosun
I found out almost at once that I had joined a ship full of Jocks ( NO OFFENCE) I had sailed out with jocks
    before and after no bother.
As soon as the bosun saw me he said right your in the mess room for this trip. dont you carry deck boys
anymore I said, the mess room he said.
Right I thought get of this ship now but I had signed articles, an hour later I was back in the Glasgow Pool
Office demanding to see a doctor after another hour I had a medical and in no time a sick note was in my
pocket. back to the ship I went and shoved it up the mates nose half an hour later with my gear I went back to see the mate for my discharge book. Get of my ship he screemed so away I went back to the Boro
I had not looked in my book to see what he dicharged me with but to my surprise he had given me two VGs
so ended my shortest trip. By the way I had a bad appendix (cough) (cough)

    Cheers Tony ,

Wink No one wll beat this!!!

Got a travel warrant Mann island pool for Preston Dock M.V. Valerie B. Cant even remember the company other than she was a little coaster with a full compliment of no more than 12 crew. Entered Preston dock in a taxi pulled up along side the ship just as they were about to let the head rope go and sail. I done no more than through my bag on her well deck and jumped aboard. With that the mate come down from the focsle and ordered surge on the head rope as she was moving away from the quay on the swell. Looking at me dumfounded he asked who are you ????? With that i handed him my docket showed him my book and said sent from Mann island Liverpool E.D.H. We dont need an E.D.H.No cabin for one thing. Sorry chief but according to this docket you do. He swiftly ran up to the bridge and returned and gave me a travel warrant back to Liverpool taxi included i shall contact them he said we are about to sail as you can see ???????? as they heaved on the drum end and put me back ashore i had spent 10 minutes aboard her as she was pulling away one of the seaman on the after end shouted they signed someone out of the boozer an hour ago. OK i went straight back to Mann island went straight to the N.U.S. Counter and explained. I got a weeks pay a days paid leave and the company got fined by the B.O.T. One of my better trips 10 minutes. Regards all Terry.
