Tony... I was caught up with a person like this myself.. for 3 years, I tried to help them..but, as you can read below....SORRY....but, better to just say Adios Amigos.. and be done with their tormented mines... SAD, yes... but, true...

Pathological liars - or "mythomaniacs" - may be suffering from histrionic personality disorder or narcissistic personality disorder. The following comments basically reflect a pathological liar who has the characteristics of histrionic personality disorder.

Some characteristics

1. Exaggerates things that are ridiculous.
2. One-upping. Whatever you do, this person can do it better. You will never top them in their own mind, because they have a concerted need to be better than everyone else. This also applies to being right. If you try to confront an individual like this, no matter how lovingly and well-intentioned you might be - this will probably not be effective. It's threatening their fantasy of themselves, so they would rather argue with you and bring out the sharp knives than admit that there's anything wrong with them.
3. They "construct" a reality around themselves. They don't value the truth, especially if they don't see it as hurting anyone. If you call them on a lie and they are backed into a corner, they will act very defensively and say ugly things (most likely but depends on personality), but they may eventually start to act like, "Well, what's the difference? You're making a big deal out of nothing!" (again, to refocus the conversation to your wrongdoing instead of theirs).
4. Because these people don't value honesty, a lot of times they will not value loyalty. So watch what you tell them. They will not only tell others, but they will embellish to make you look worse. Their loyalty is fleeting, and because they are insecure people, they will find solace in confiding to whomever is in their favor at the moment.
5. They may be somewhat of a hypochondriac. This can come in especially useful when caught in a lie, for example, they can claim that they have been sick, or that there's some mysteriously "illness" that has them all stressed out. It's another excuse tool for their behavior.
6. Obviously, they will contradict what they say. This will become very clear over time. They usually aren't smart enough to keep track of so many lies (who would be?)

The only person I know and whom I can identify with this told myself and my wife that he was, for twenty years, a sales representative with the Gas Company in the Bolton area?

Then,as now,You were slagging off the same respected member of this website then,as you are doing now.
I know you are /were the Owner/Admin/Global Moderator of the Sailors Home site,as well as being a member on this site.

Your own site’s Rules include the following:

I can not come up with any other suggestion why you would want to do this,other than to release some bile festering within you…
Perhaps one of the more sensible members of Sailors Home,who are also a member here could have a word in your 'shell-like'.

Jim,
A carton of fags at the duty free in Panama airport just skyrocketed up to $18, about 11 quid, I think. Used to be $14 up till a week ago. It's enough to make you give them up, eh. $52 in the U.S.

If you care to go back to page 16 of this thread you will see a full explanation of how I was vilified with lies; you will also find a hyper-link to my Blog where you can see for yourself that this pathological liar misrepresented me by claiming a fictitious story I posted on my Blog was a factual account and intimated I had serious mental problems.

This sick person was a regular reader of my Blog until he discovered his visits were being recorded.
I say publicly that he is a pathological liar, so if I am wrong and he is being maligned let him sue me.
Incidentally I contacted the administrator of the Merchant Navy Site and in spite of the evidence, I presented, that the person in question was breaking the site rules by disrespecting and maligning me I was told to sort the problem out myself.

There is no way to discuss any exposition of a pathological liar as some on the Merchant Navy Site will already have discovered and surely I have the right to defend myself if the site administrator won’t?

TIME: 10.30am, on a Saturday in June, 1959.
PLACE: At sea - on G.S.N.C's 'Ringdove'.

Just before 10am. I relieved my watchmate, Bill Ryder, at the wheel.....course 065 degrees.....she was taking the slightest touch of starboard helm then and nothing has changed since. After any correction I make, she seems to hold her course forever before finally drifting ever so slowly off to port.

The calm Mediterranean lays spread out before me like a warm blanket of aquamarine, it's ruffled surface peppered by a million reflections from the sun. Their are a few other vessels in view, but they are mostly fishermen. I look at the horizon over to port and, although barely discernible, I detect the slow roll of the ship. The Third Mate has opened both wheelhouse doors hoping to encourage any breeze that may come our way but, so far, there has been little sign of that. Later it's going to be hot, but for now it's still quite pleasant. Since ten, a radio has been tuned into the BBC coming from London and we've been listening to the music on 'Saturday Club' interspersed by the enthusiastic voice of the compere, Brian Matthews.

Glancing at the compass I can see that we are right on course. In conditions like this, the business of steering a ship seems so easy - if only it were always so.

I become distracted by the sun coming through the windows in front of me, the shafts of sunlight barely moving across the deck as they respond to the movement of the ship. The voice of Frankie Avalon coming from the radio ...".Venus! Goddess of love that you are".... .and my mind wanders back to that girl I met in Cheshunt just ten days ago. I feel a slight sensation in my chest and wonder if she thinks of me as I'm thinking of her?.

Behind me someone is coming up the internal stairway from the Officer's accommodation below. I answer accordingly to the friendly "Good morning" from Captain Selmer as he passes by me into the wheelhouse. He wears no uniform jacket, the sleeves of his white shirt rolled casually up his forearms. With his neatly trimmed beard and strong features he looks to me as how, as a child, I expected every sea-captain to look.
The Third Mate on seeing the Captain, hurries in from the wing of the bridge with a chirpy "Good morning, Sir". They become engaged in conversation and both go back out to the wing. I watch as the skipper glances up at the blue sky, for'ard, then aft before turning back to the junior Mate with a smile on his face suggesting that he feels like me - that all is good with the world!.

The sound of a plane's engines breaks into my thoughts and out on the wing I see the Captain and Mate looking up, shielding their eyes from the sun and turning slightly to follow the plane as it passes above us. The aircraft appears to be quite low and as the noise from it's engines starts to fade, I bend down and through the port-side window catch a rear view of a small twin-engined sea-plane heading off in the direction of the Riviera. Probably off to Monte Carlo for a taste of the high life affordable only to the rich and famous, I think.

I look ahead to the horizon where there is a haze, a fusion of colour where the sea meets the sky. Six hours beyond that horizon lies Genoa, Italy, where this evening we shall be enjoying ourselves in one or more of the many bars. Wine, women and song, our own 'high life', we'll be doing what seamen have always done in a thousand ports across the world, since man first built a ship.

Brian Matthews is back and I can hear Emile Ford...."I'd like to get you on a slow boat to China-a-a"....how wonderfully appropriate, I'm thinking. I check our heading...065..spot on. Everything's fine and life is oh! so good.

Roger, have you ever been aprofessional writer? I ask as I find your stories so well written and laced with coulorful adjectives and decsriptions. Not saying the others who post do not do a good job but yours just seem to have that edge.

It appears that your view of what is said about you has been festering for a long time if you want us all to go back to post #16 when we are already past your post of #191.

Perhaps Captain you should, with respect sir, act like a Captain and say to yourself that this is beneath me, or are you one of those Captains who stays in his cabin on a long voyage gazes through his porthole and sees mountains where only molehills exist.

Believe me sir we have had enough of acrimony between parties on this site and anymore is unwelcome and signing yourself "Captain A.P.Dwyer" cuts no cloth on this site where rank is not recognised, only common sense and camaraderie are the currencies on this site, irrespective of which deck your accommodation was on.

Yes we will all have differences of opinions because we are human and have different experiences, but acrimony and sour grapes are not on the menu.

So why not forget the past, look forward to the future, because for most of us, from what I read from shipmates experiences, is that our future is a damn sight shorter than our past, so why not enjoy what time is left free of acrimony, prejudice and feelings of being slighted, we have all experienced that rogue wave and come through it to sail into calmer waters and that sir, with respect is what you should do.

Perhaps 'Sailors Home' is indeed the appropriate place to be.
