To Start this!
Well as there havent been any comments on this old Line as yet,i thought that i would just post a Link to it,as there are a few good PICS of their old Fleet and think that some of you may like to see them!
I remember going down to the Harbour quite a few times to see some of these Ships ! Some really nice ones !
Enjoy!
Wonder if any of you had served on one of these!?
Cheers

Hi vernon.
From the Vindi News. South African seafarer Louse Angel has become the first woman to take command of a Safmarine vessel Aged 29, she is also the youngest master in the companies fleet of 19 owned and 39 chartered ships. She is married and lives in Durban, and took command of the 2,474 TEU container ship Safmarine Ngami operating between South Africa and Norh America.

Hi Vernon,
I sailed with Springbok Line on the GOOD HOPE CASTLE in 1959. Three trips then took her to Hong Kong breakers.
We had the Springbok Line funnel, , Black with blue , white and orange bands around the top.
We were registered in CAPE TOWN and flew the South African Flag. also on slightly higher wages than British ships.
Later we were taken over by Saf Marine.
A few old U/C cargo ships were transferred to them as well as us, I remember the Drakensberg Castle was another.
Cheers
Brian.

Gees mate as i have said in the past, you have really been around in your lifetime, and thanks for telling of this time!
Yes quite a few of the old smaller Castle Boats were with Saf Marine (and Springbok Lines)in the past!
I believe that they were nice Ships to serve with!

I think the history went something like Bullard King / Natal line ::, then Springbok then Safmarine , ,
