Fully loaded with bagged sugar.The mate mis-caculated the weight(inc.sacks),ended up with several sacks high on after hatch. Reciefe to Tsam Kong (China)

Hi Shipmates, Hi tony thanks for your help the port was Reciefe in south america still cant remember too much about it or where the ship took the sugar? The drink was much stronger in them days. or maybe its me? it was a few years ago All i can remember is closing the hatches on the "Bridgepool" in the evening and the dock workers bringing the sugar in sacks on they heads a worker cutting the sack string with a big knife , and the sugar worker taking the sack back for some more. non stop all day long.

Louis same system used in Santiago-de-Cuba in Cuba in the 50's, the rum we had was Bacardi, the bottles had glass ball bearings in the neck so that they could not be refilled with fake rum

Did several trips to savannah la mar and salt river , great fun and lovely people , went there on crystal jewel ,crystal sapphire , sugar crystal , lovely days .

Barry,I did the maiden voyage on the Crystal Sapphire,crew messman.Savannah La Mar and Salt River a trip to remeber in many ways.

Hi jim ,the crystal sapphire was a bit rough and ready when I sailed on her but I loved the sea and did not mind what ship I was on , but my favourite of all time was sugar transporter , done maiden on her in 1970 , oh boy all these lovely memories are bringing tears to my eyes , by the way I was officers saloon steward . Barry,talking about being saloon steward I remember an incident on the Sapphire when we were in Jamaica.About 8 bums walked into the saloon for their dinner,you know the ones,tally clerks,policeman ships boss,customs man etc.The captain was having none of it and chased them out "get down to the crew mess".They came into my messroom and sat down,as you know it was cafeteria where I served from the press through a hatch.I put 8 soups up and shouted "soup" they would not come and help themselves insisted on being waited on.I waited 5 minutes soup not wanted then and dumped it.Put 8 dinners up and shouted to them again,bring it over they insisted.Self service here gents no waiting on,before they would collect it themselves they all got up and walked out, to a good rally from the crowd and well done Jim.

Hi shipmates, Hi Keith tindell can you remember if any one took photos of the yankee planes who buzzed the Durham trader in Cuban waters? A few years ago I saw some photos from someone who was on that ship? from Cardiff he mooned them a few times on deck for the they photos. did you remember him?

Did 2 trips on the Sugar Transporter 61 as JOS. Straight out to the Dominican Republic and then back. Only person I can remember is the @nd Mate last name of Welch same as my girl friend,
