Silvertown Services
Was aboard the " Sugar Transporter " and the " Crystal Diamond " late 50s early 60s.
Cane sugar from Cuba, and Jamaica.
Also drove their 28 ton trucks ( maximum weight in those days ) transporting raw beet
sugar from Bury St. Edmunds to Tate & Lyle London, in the mid 60s.
Where has our merchant fleet gone.

Talking of Tate & Lyle brought back memories of when I first went to sea.
Recall while working by, being on the bus and having a bunch of the girls from T & L sugar refinery get on.
They embarrassed the hell out of me. All in good fun though. Typical East Enders.
Think I got off well before my stop!

Good question John, Think it was the former. In those 'early' days I was quite shy!!
It passed.
